For those of us with an integral concrete garage some 50 metres (164 feet) away from my living area, there is zero chance of my WiFi being able to be picked up wirelessly by a Taycan in the garage. If I were to run a 50m length of ethernet cable from my apartment down into the garage, is there any way of connecting the internet cable physically to the car? (Yes, I could get a stand=alone internet hub in the garage but that's yet another unwelcome monthly charge) Would be grateful for any ideas about achieving a hard-wired connection.

Afaik there is no way to physically connect a cable but if you are able to run a ethernet cable you've done the hard work. Connect an access point and you're all set full strength Wi-Fi.

Not sure what you are asking for. The Taycan has no way to connect to any external WiFi. You can subscribe to a data package for a Porsche Super premium price, but that will only give you a hotspot in your Taycan. No external WiFi unless you live in Russia

I assumed he meant to get to the PMCC - but good point!

The word. I use a Nest WiFi router which has an Ethernet port for the wired connection.

That would be a waste of cable as you cannot connect the Taycan to an external hotspot (only possible in Russian spec cars).

Thanks, W1nge, but do I need to have any internet availability in my (remote) garage? What do you recommend as the minimum connectivity in the garage itself?

What is it that you want to do specifically?

The only thing I can think of is to access your EVSE - PMC+ or PMCC or whatever unit you have - is that correct?

If there is a cell / mobile signal strong enough then you should be able to contact the car via your mobile via My Porsche App (or web site).

Whatever your need, I’d suggest that running copper cables outdoors between buildings is asking for a lightning strike.

Why do you want internet in your garage? What are you trying to accomplish? Outside of Russia, the taycan cannot connect to WiFi.

If you want to connect the PMCC to WiFi then all you need is a mesh WiFi network. You can pick up a kit from Costco for a few hundred dollars. Tbh, there is not much functionality to connect to WiFi anyway.

Sorry for a newbie question since I am a couple of months away from getting my Taycan, but how does it get updates OTA if it doesn't have an internet connection via WIFI?

Ah ok.

The car has a built in LTE data service that will take care of this automatically and supports OTA, all Porsche Connect services, Apple Music etc. You do not need to purchase anything in addition such as a data package.

You can also access the car remotely via the same service and you simply need to download the My Porsche App which is free.

Interim why not download the Porsche Good To Know App and start reading up on all of this stuff and more. Better to be prepared than not!
