I've been experiencing such problems on and off for the last week. It's unacceptable for me as a user and it would have been shamefully embarrassing for me if I'd been responsible for such failure to deliver when I was in IT.

Nothing for the car but the back end services that support your ownership experience are poor.

And what exactly has this to do with the car?
The thread title acknowledges that the cars are excellent. Personally, I'm seeing too many manufacturers selling products that are promoted as being enhanced/enabled/supported (as applicable to the specific product) by Apps that they have authorised and which (and/or the wireless connectivity onboard the products themselves) don't function well or reliably enough. This bothers me on several counts: (1) I'm not getting the advertised functionality; (2) I hold the supplier of the hardware I purchased responsible for fixing the issue; (3) it's an indication that they don't understand or care about these aspects of their services, which also then (4) doesn't inspire me with confidence in the quality of the other IT that's onboard the products themselves.

Nobody just buys into the physical car. They are buying into an ecosystem. Just like when you buy an Apple or Google backed product.

With Porsche, the ecosystem consists of the car itself, the cloud based software system (subject of this thread), Porsche Centres, service centres, lifestyle brand (watches, clothes, luggage from Porsche Design), package holidays (https://experience.porsche.com/en/travel), Made in Germany (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Made_in_Germany), social media positioning, etc

Due to the wide range of Porsche buyers – different parts of the ecosystem are important to different buyers.

There is a vocal minority on this forum that push the message: the car is physically okay and/or impressive – therefore any comment or dissatisfaction with any other aspect of the Porsche ecosystem is unwarranted. I think that is unreasonable.

...and 'yes' I work in the industry, this sort of outage would be unacceptable for many, but is it just me?
A quick look at the My Porsche page:

Porsche Taycan They make excellent cars......but their software ability leaves a lot to be desired.... Screenshot 2022-07-31 at 14.12.09

Shows that it is "api.porsche.com" that is returning a 502 Bad Gateway error. Which usually means that the origin of the endpoint (which is either a load-balancer or a CDN entry node) is not responding.

Doing a quick traceroute on "api.porsche.com":

Show's that its hosted by a service called Apigee on "*.apigee.net". Apigee seems to be an API Management company acquired by Google and now part of their Google cloud offering.

So it would seem that either something has gone wrong at this third-party service (or a mis-configuration) or (more likely in my opinion) something has gone wrong at the origin endpoint that Porsche are pointing Apigee to.

Same here. The app stil works. Different server?
There isn't just one server within either the website or the app. The app uses at least 10 different endpoints and different paths within those endpoints.

So yes, in this case it would appear that the services supporting the app are not impacted.

In terms of handling, driving, performance and the quality of build I love the car. One of the best I've ever had. However the software, PCM and app let the whole experience down badly. It's been back several times for various issues, all software related.

I'm not sure why it should be so. My wife has a VW iD3, same VAG group, and the software and app on that has been faultless.

It's been so bad that I've recently ordered another Turbo S.
