Reception in my Taycan in the uk is very poor with frequent dropped calls. It is as though the dar acts as its own faraday cage. Can anyone comment on this from the handbook - which does not deem to work in my car.

What model year do you have? My understanding is that the part that boosts the signal was removed in ‘22.

Also, what roof type do you have?

And do you have the thermal and noise insulated glass option?

This has been discussed at lenght early on and the consensus seems to be a lack of a decent antenna in favor of aerodynamics. And no AM radio but at least the quality of the sound from the Burmeister is outstanding..

Hi Thanks for question and apols for typos - currently have covid but not too bad.

its a 2020 car with a glass roof. I did hear someone say at the dealer that Porsche had to disable the antenna as it interfered with something - possibly a military issue ! (No Russians here ....Yet!)

But the handbook clearly says that there is a phone signal booster: "using the external antenna ensures less radiation in the vehicle and better reception quality for a mobile phone connected via bluetooth" . When I put this to the dealership they acted like I had arrived from Mars ie no comprehension/engagement at all. A salesman did tell me though that it was a general issue.

It goes back in for a service soon - 2 years - and I intend to press them on it as it is infuriating.

Very interested in others experiences/thoughts on the handbook content.

And noise insulating glass plus the glass sunroof

@Isaac I’ve tested this before (about a year ago) and have observed the signal boost on my phone in my car.

I can’t comment on what all may affect it though.

That chapter seems a little confusing. If the phone is stored as shown, why does it need to be connected via USB? Is it for charging, or is it for connection of the aerial? Would it not pose an issue being connected for wireless charging at the same time as being connected via USB?

hi the extract from the handbook only talks about a bluetooth connection for this benefit with a usb connection not being necessary - and on my car it runs Apple Car Play with just a bluetooth connection. I have tried both with the phone in the craddle to see if it makes any difference to phone signal strength compared with the phone being elsewhere in the car and it doesnt. What i do notice though is that having the window down improves signal by maybe 1 bar ( i have heat insulating/noise reducing glass) so that may be a contributory factor.
i did try enabling data connection on the vodafone on hoard sim and then connecting to the onboard system via the car wifi and enabling wifi calls on my phone but that did not work either.
what i really need is a signal booster in the car which sounded very much like the system the handbook was describing.

Works fine in mine either in the tray (ensure you have your phone the right way round) or lying loose in the car - boot / door pocket / trouser pocket.

Not all cars (country specific) have wireless charging and some were shipped without the feature due to a part shortage.

USB is not related to the aerial.

Panamera had the same / similar setup.

I’m in the UK too and do have wireless charging. I’m intrigued to find out what method they are using to boost the GSM signal to your phone. In the old days, your phone placed into a suitable car kit created a direct, physical connection between your car’s external antenna and your phone. If using Bluetooth, this is something quite different, which is interesting.

Yes now you mention it a lack of a physical connection seems hard to fathom . I am wondering if anyone sells/installs booster equipment in the after market
