Taycan is the first car I have had with this feature. Wow. It really does suck. Am guessing there is a way of switching it off for good?

Why does it suck? What issues are you experiencing?

Yes, simple to switch off - pull the left hand stalk towards you and the auto high beam assist will disable (headlight indicator will drop the 'A' and go green).

On your My Porsche App go to the Manuals tab and search 'Automatic Headlights' and read the entire section to figure which aspect you wish to disable.

Not sure why you would ever want to disable as it is one of the features which works extremely well and in particular with Matrix headlights.

Mine does work well with the matrix headlights but it isn’t perfect. I do get people flash me sometimes because they think my main beam is on. And recently I followed my son somewhere who told me that it sometimes worked better than other in masking out the bit lighting up his car. So I do like it and use it, but it could improve

thanks for the info.

issue is that the system is too slow to go to main beam when you need it and too slow to dip particularly on twisty roads. thankfully porsche didn't follow the likes of bmw with retarded nudge a bit to get a few flashes nudge harder to get constant flashes indicators but these auto dip beam was fixing a problem that was never there in the first place (being clever for the sake of it - don't get me started on the retarded air vents controlled by the touchscreen though!! :p )

Do you have matrix lights or standard?

I have matrix headlights and this feature works great for me! No issues, high beams turn on and off just fine all the time!

Mine work great but can take a little getting use to but I usually forget I just have them on and/or need to flip back in forth.

One thing to note, if you're getting frustrated that they're not turning on, it could be you are going to slow (no seriously). ...when driving slow (ie neighborhood) that the brights won't come on but if you speed up a bit (say above 30, they'll kick on). I had no idea there was a speed component to them and was saying something the other night while driving home from dinner to my wife. She says it's because you're going too slow, speed up a bit.
....and she was right, slight bump in speed, brights came right on........she's always right.....

(how she knew this, I'll never know b/c she never drives my car nor knows much about cars)

Being US based you won't be getting the full benefits of matrix lighting (law doesn't permit currently but is (has) changing (changed) however Porsche would have to enable features to get the full benefit).

Speed sensitive and revert to dipped beam only when traveling at speeds < 40 mph. Additionally, lights revert to dipped beam when street lighting is detected.

There should be no need (normally) to manually control high or low beam and in particular with the matrix system (outside US) and apart from the above situations, the lights are always on full beam BUT crucially individual LEDs (84 in total) are switched off to p revent dazzle to coming cars.

ok found it - under settings Dynamic Main Beam.

dipping lights was never a problem for me - the auto system just makes it worse. eg when you can see lights of an oncoming car lighting the sky above a crest - courteous thing to do is dip just before you crest. auto system doesn't do this. same too when there is an armco centre divide obscuring oncoming truck lights but the cab is above the armco. auto system misses this too.

also when heading out from a village onto a pitch black unlit b road. always nice to have high beam on just before gunning out into the darkness. auto system doesn't do this.

Still not clear if you have matrix lights or not. If so, then depending on speed (and presence of street lights) the headlights are always show full beam BUT crucially the cameras will detect oncoming light source and disable relevant LEDs in the matrix which would blind an oncoming driver.

Check also that you have the option 'High beam adoption on vehicle recognition' enabled (can't remember if this is also set when you push the light stalk forward to engage Auto).

Apparently the US law has changed at the beginning of 2022, or so the current US president would have us believe. However I see no cars with enabled matrix lights yet, so either auto manufacturers are extremely slow enabling it, or the current administration pulled a typical political wool over people's eyes - "we made it legal" means "we have started the process to make it legal, which may take a few years, budget permitting". Given that even Tesla is not enabling their matrix headlight present on some of the latest cars, I'm going with the Biden administration stretched the truth tremendously to imply they can make the government move fast, but in reality their promise of matrix headlights is no different than Elon's promise of autonomous driving in 2016. .

It will say on the top edge of the headlight on the black plastic if Matrix or not plus visually they look a little different behind the glass.

So if standard lights then auto switching between main and dipped is all you can expect (along with a couple of other PDLS+ features) and so reaction time may be slower as the camera reacts.

I know there is a premium for the matrix set but they are outstanding in all respects IMHO
