For the second time in 18 months, the right hand port-cover has jammed in the open position. Apart from the two permanent jams, the cover has also played silly buggers before, but sorted itself out after a day or two.

I can still charge the car at home, or away on a/c, but the left hand d/c port will not function - because the right-hand one is permanently open ! This means that I can’t really go on any lengthy trips and use a rapid charger.

Apart from a few relatively more relatively minor bugs, the car has been a pleasure to own, but I’m now seriously irritated that I’m hamstrung by a small but significant fault for the second time.

Most of the advice I have seen relates to ports being jammed shut, not open.

If anyone has any advice, apart from a 120 mile round trip to the dealer, please let me know.

This is what warranties are for. Make an appointment with your dealer and get it resolved.

Had the same on both ports in the span of 2-3 days a year ago. Mostly non opening ports. It required replacing both (and a controller I think). Done in 2,5 days. But my super expert dealer was 10 mins away

60 miles away from the dealer is nothing. There are owners hundreds of miles away from their dealer.
60 miles is a long way on English roads and population density.
An unreliable car isn’t a car, it is a millstone.

In 50 years of car ownership I have never had such a trivial fault limit my use of a car.
I would be absolutely seething if something like this happened to me.

Welcome to 2022. Every car model is being sold with "trivial faults".

Material quality is way down, labor is difficult, and quality standards have fallen for every single manufacturer. Im not excusing that it sucks, but it is what it is.

Take it to the dealership.

Yes the OP is stuck with taking it to the dealership.

A lot of the unreliability is in the unimportant gizmos I would be happy to do without. I reflect on how annoyed I’d be if my wife had been driving and the vast number of heavy electric motors in the seat broke and I couldn’t get in.

I must admit I personally considered the electric charging covers pointless and a potential point of unreliability so I didn’t specify them. I plan to open the port with one of my 2 hands and plug the cable in with the other :)

I would still be furious.

Remember that the manual port doors can also be problematic as incredible as that sounds.

I had 3 failures with my Panamera fuel filler cover (including falling apart once).

I concluded Porsche can't engineer refueling caps and covers!

Thanks for the comments. It would appear that I’ll get no joy unless the car goes back to the dealership. That’s a real black mark against Porsche for me.

As suggested above, I am actually seething about it !

If it can’t be fixed with either duct tape or WD-40, you will have no choice but to visit the dealer.

Maybe try reseeding the fuse? Not sure which one it is but at least you would’ve tried something before making that drive!
