Dear All,

I have been patiently following the forum since at least October 2021 and due to collect my Taycan 4s from London in 1st week of Jan (approx)

I would appreciate some clarity and advice on few points below

1) Immobiliser and tracker-I have a ghost 2 immobiliser installed in GLE400d with no issues and plan to do so in Taycan also.
Speaking to OPC from Mayfair branch he said he know lots of people has installed it with no issues. Speaking to the guy who installed on my GLE, he also said he had installed it on a few Taycans with no issues but I can’t find anybody in this forum making any reference to having it.

Has anybody in the UK on this forum actually installed a ghost 2 and what is the feedback?

Both options (ghost 2 Immobiliser and tracker) costs about £850 with 5 year tracker included

2) Dashcam- I am considering Blackvue 900x-2CH Plus- can somebody recommend a local/mobile installer (Birmingham based) and also what options to go for (such as extra battery etc) to avoid issue of 12v battery drainage issue and is it still an issue?

3) Detailing/ PPF - is it worth it, what are the pros and cons and which option any local (Birmingham based) recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Hi, I had the Porsche Dashcam fitted at my dealership earlier this year. Very expensive but it works fine. It has its own dedicated app. You can review footage on your phone and also on a PC using the mini SD card. My only disappointment is that you connot review footage on the PCM screen in the car. I understand for 2023 Taycan models, the Porsche Dashcam wiring will be part of the wiring loom by default and you can have the option of a rear camera as well as the front camera. Check it out with your dealership.
Prior to collection I had my car ceramic coated by a Gtechniq professional at the dealership and I have to say I am very pleased. I use Gtechniq products to maintain protection. See : https://www.gtechniq.co.uk/

I have ghost 2 fitted to our ct4 and will do same for my GTS. Fitted well and very discreetly that no one will know it’s been fitted. Not had any issues with it or the car with it. I know in the early days someone had an issue when they performed an update at dealership with it but I left my fob in the car when it went for update so it unlocked itself so no issues

Why not just stick with the built-in PVTS+ service? What's the advantage of these 3rd-party systems?

I subscribe to PVTS+ as its a requirement of my insurance.
Porsche system is Thatcham approved, so ticks the necessary insurance boxes for me too.

Although compared to Scorpion/Datatool which I use for other stuff, it’s more expensive on an annual basis.

1. Subscribe to PVTS. Integrated into PCM and My Porsche App.

2. I wouldn't bother.

3. Gtechniq Platinum service from your dealer - £550 (ish).

Thanks for all the responses.

Gtechniq Platinum service is excellent so this aspect is sorted.

Re immobiliser and dash cam, let me explain in bit more details re the reasons.

I live in Birmingham which has the highest rate of car thefts in UK and the cheapest car insurance for me and my wife with NCD for 10 years plus for both of us is £1600 plus excess of £1350.

I want to ensure there is no chance of car being stolen due to the year long delay in getting a replacement.

Ghost 2 immobiliser prevents any car theft as you need to add a sequence to start the car and the car cannot be started even if you have the keys to car. I have been using it in my GLE for last 2 years with no issues and no worries of keyless or any other car thefts. It even has a valet option to disable it temporarily ( it automatically is enabled if car is driven for more than 15 mins above I think 40miles per hour) when your car is in service etc and even the main dealer won’t know its installed.

PVTS will not prevent car theft as its just a tracker and I think you need to carry a fob separately

Dashcam is for peace of mind just in case of an accident to avoid issues of liability.

PVTS is more than you have described. Remote immobilisation is supported and is handled between Vodafone, the Police and the owner.

Thatcham Cat 5 . Certificate provided for your insurance company.

Valet option on My Porsche App.

Without the tracker fob being present a silent theft alarm is triggered

My tuppence worth; I’d always use a professional detailer before a dealer supplied option, might cost a little more but it’s all in the prep, there are plenty in the Midlands to choose from, Staffordshire Detailing in Walsall are very good.

I don’t know the numbers but would’ve thought EV’s are not on the shopping list for the average car thief, if it’s being stolen to order then that’s a different matter and frankly they can have it, I wouldn’t want the car back.

Is that correct? The vehicle can be switched off remotely? I have PVTS and didn't know/understand that. I thought was just an alarm/tracker/theft alert. Good if it is and works.

100% correct.

Always best to understand what you are paying for!

If in doubt contact the Vodafone SOC (Security Operations Centre) and they will explain the remote feature. It will only be used in extreme situations and only be effective when the car has been powered off and then on command being sent won’t power on again. Despite the thief not giving a toss we have to ‘respect their safety’ and not disable the car whilst moving. Procedure requires permission from the Police as well as the owner before such a command will be used. Launching nukes would be easier!

I had a couple of silent alarms recently due to a flat battery in the Driver’s Card (fob for PVTS) and had a good chat with the SOC to get to the detail.
