So, not really a Porsche specific q. Currently with OVO and very happy with ability to charge the Taycan anytime and all at 7p. It’s so stress free and love it!

But, looked at replacing the wife’s evoque today with a hybrid 2021 evoque so need to charge this as plan is to run on ev daily as she does low miles. Only 13kw battery but would mean little or no petrol required, but OVO say it doesn’t support Land Rover and I have a pod point, so I’d be paying peak rate to charge it and this would be pointless.

So, is it back to octopus intelligent and just the 6 hours at cheap rate?

Would I be able to charge my car at 7kw and her car on slow trickle at 3kw simultaneously? House has 100amp fuse in electric meter?

If you have two EVs you could get a pair of charging points which load share. I have Easee One for example - max load on the house is never more than one at a time, making various intelligent choices about timing etc.

sorry, don’t understand. I don’t really want to outlay for new charger. Want to use my current pod point to charge at 7kw for taycan and use 3 pin plug that comes with evoque hybrid at same time. Both will be charging potentially at same time for full 6 hours.

That would be fine. I have a Tesla Powerwall battery. It charges at 5kW, while the car charges at 7.2kW. I have a 80a master fuse.

Yes, back to Octopus Intelligent.
My Audi Etron which does most miles charges at 7kw via the podpoint working with Octopus intelligent.
My Taycan charges simultaneously via the 3 pin plug and an extension lead ?for 6 hours a night and has done without problem for 2 years.
There is nothing fancy about my electric setup. Just normal domestic.
Here is an example of them both charging with the washing machine, dishwasher and underfloor heating!

We're just about to do similar (Volvo XC90 T8 incoming).

I'm hoping the battery on that will cover the OH's typical daily miles....then plug in via 3pin and have it charge during cheap hours.

Ultimately even if it needs doing during non-cheap rate it'll still be cheaper than petrol.

A compatible IO charger might be a better option, as I think we could then plug the Volvo in and it might give us additional cheap hours as it would see it as an EV demanding charge....but a new charger would be 1k, so doubt it would be worth it.

Will see how we get on with the 3

That’s really useful to know and sounds like exactly the same set up I would be going for but other way round car wise! Thank you.

Yes, wife’s mileage is low (school/ gym) so as you say 3 pin for 6 hours will suffice. It’s only a 12kw battery so should be comfortable. It must be a pretty inefficient battery as LR say 38 miles, but owner reports say nearer 25 miles on ev only. At 30p a kw I’m not sure it would be cheaper than petrol though! ( £3.60 for 25 miles !?)

Sorry if this is a thread hijack but I've just started using Intelligent Octopus Go. How do you charge your battery and your car? That's what I want to achieve but so far no success.

Powerwall is just a matter of setting up a utility plan and enabling time-based control:

I have a Zappi EVSE and I’ve set Octopus Intelligent to be integrated with this instead of the Taycan.
I then set an active Profile set to 85%. It’s important it’s set to Optimised Charging:

timer should be disabled.

then in the Octopus app set it to ‘add 100%’:

it won’t charge to 100% but when Octopus schedules your charge, you’ll get a longer period at the low 7.5p rate. If you really want to optimise things, then you can set the Powerwall schedule to match - but you’ve got to remember to set it back!

Average petrol price is around £1.40 per litre....or £6.30 per gallon. So a petrol car would need to do 45mpg or so for it to break even at those prices.

But that will typically be round town. And is the 12kW of Evoque battery the usable amount?

The XC90 we're getting will do around 40 miles from around 15kW-16kW usable. (A friend has one so we know the numbers are more or less OK). At 30ppkWh that's equivalent to 53mpg, which I know from experience of our D5 XC90 that it will never get close to that, around town or otherwise (34mpg at best). And we'll be charging it mostly at 7.5p. So that's an equivalent of 200+ mpg.

40 miles should be enough for typical daily runs. But that also relies on using it so the engine doesn't kick in (may be tricky when there's so much power on tap). We'll see how it goes.

We almost went the full EV route for the family wagon (EV9)...if we'd done that, I would have installed a compatible EVSE and linked that with IO.

We've also just gone phev for wife (BMW X1 30e) which has a 16kw battery (14 useable) which is good for 35-45 miles (winter / summer).
Great car BTW. Suits us fine as she does lots of low journey days (gym etc) then occassional long business journeys.

We are just managing the charging between the two with a single charger on Octopus Go.

So I was also wondering about intelligent Octopus and more than one car.
The X1 is listed for IO, but I'm just a bit wary of all the posts on here with issues using IO with the Taycan.
We are tending to easily manage on the 4 hours with Go, but it's 9p v 7.5p on IO.

IO works OK with the Taycan. The odd glitch where it ignores the charge cap, but it's sporadic rather than every time.

Thing is, I don't think you can officially register more than one car with it. So the second car will be limited to 2330-0530 and any cheap windows the registered car gets.

Could be wrong as don't have a second EV, but think that's what I read on their site when I was considering one.

I am on OVO but have solar cells so they won't do the special charge rate at all so I charge at full rate still much cheaper than petrol but I do resent not getting super cheap leccy.

I also have a plug in Prius which I put petrol in once a year when I go the the petrol station to fill up my garden tractor, strimmer and hedge trimmer jerry cans. It goes 30 to 36 miles on a charge of its 6kW battery which used to cost less than £1 and now almost £2 at full price, still not bad IMO, I still have a ⅓ tank of petrol from last Spring since its engine needs to run so infrequently.
Mind you it is relatively light and a very efficient design unlike the Panamera PHEV I looked at...

I basically decided the extra cost for the mileage I do wasn't worth the hassle of charging in the middle of the night.
Does paying £0.28 per kW make a plug in uneconomical for your wife's use????

So we have a similar setup, wife has Volvo plug-in XC-40. She charges it every day under my Porsche profile on the Ohme Pro charger - it just fills the battery to 100% then stops charging. I charge the Taycan once a week so we just juggle them around. We appear to benefit from the Charge-Anytime scheme - however it's a pain to reconcile use against credits the following month with them...
