Watching the release video it may have the first turbo engine I like!

Using a motor generator on the turbo to extract power rather than dump it with a wastegate but still better using it to spin up the turbo to reduce lag is the first time I have seen Formula 1 style hybrid on a road car (ignoring the Merc 1).
Brilliant.
Probably a bit pricy if it goes wrong though, the F1 versions cost a LOT.

The thermal requirements on those turbos must be a huge challenge. Exhaust gasses on one side, electric motor inches away on the other. And on the other side of that intake air temps.

Omg the GTS is fast, super car territory fast.

though Porsche had this hybrid tech back in the 918 spyder but kept it away from the 911 to satisfy purists, but imagine a turbo S, or the gt2rs for the 992.2. Turbo S will be in the sub 2.5 to 60 hands down.

the times we live in!

Exactly. It is called the MGU-H in Formula 1 and I believe is dropped from the 2026 regulations because of cost (though the cost of F1 has nothing to do with regulations) and inapplicability to road cars…

I do know that you do not want magnets to get too hot.

And the manual is gone…
May not be feasible with the control systems.
One of the ways I suggested for improving F1 racing was to bring back 3 pedals and H-pattern gears and direct link between throttle pedal and engine intakes to bring back the likelihood of more driver mistakes allowing overtakes like the old days but with the current hybrid engines it wasn’t feasible, so staying with a car my grandma could change gear on as well as Lewis Hamilton.

There was a lot of support for the concept though.

One turbo serves the whole engine now.
The biggest benefit of two is less lag but with the e-turbo probably no longer necessary.
I’m thinking about cylinder imbalance. The picture shows one cylinder bank right next to the turbo and then a long pipe connected to the other. I suppose once back pressure builds up it equalizes out. Still seems like one bank would run different than the other.

I haven’t seen a good picture. I am sure they know how to balance it, and the intercooler will be part of it. Maybe there are still two but that would be even more expensive, I dread to think how expensive the e-turbo is!
It is certainly difficult to get a good induction system on flat engines but Porsche have a fair bit of experience…
