Looking for recommendations on a quality charging adapter that can be used on my Taycan at Tesla charging stations. Thanks in advance!

for slow charging (homes, friends, malls, golf courses, hotels, businesses) - non-fast charing - TeslaTap…https://www.amazon.com/TeslaTap-Mini-Tesla-J-1772-Adapter/dp/B08T8YG63J

for Tesla SuperCharging you can not yet use Tesla Supercharges - Porsche's press release said 2025 (no specific time period) - an adapter is available but Tesla/Porsche have not yet "authorized" Porsche vehicles to charge at Tesla sites so you will be blocked from starting a charging session at a Tesla supercharger.

Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche and Scout Motors today announced planned implementation of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for future products in the North American region, beginning in 2025
this is the type of adapter you will eventually need for Supercharger Access - https://ev-lectron.com/products/lectron-vortex-plug-tesla-supercharger-nacs-to-ccs-adapter - but until Tesla allows Porsche vehicle's to use their network it's a paperweight.

you can use some Tesla Sueprcharger sites in North america _IF_ Tesla has added MagicDock capabilities to that site - consult Tesla's App for the most up to date list of MagicDock equipped sites…

Yes. There are a few stations that Tesla has opened up to all cars. There is only 1 located in the whole Bay Area. It’s in Scott’s Valley. It was pretty seamless when I gave it a try.

The "TapMini" is way over priced... get one of these, or two for $40, i seen them go down to 15 some days..

The Tesla Tap is made in the USA and has a positive history of reliability. The QIAO is more than likely made in China and no where on the web page does it state that it meets SAE standards. I didn’t mind spending a couple hundred dollars on an adapter to charge my $100,000 plus car. Plus trying very hard to not buy stuff made in China, bad enough some of my prescription medication is produced in China.

I'm also using one of the $30 adapters and so far it's been great. I do notice it charges at 7kw, is that normal?

That slow speed is most likely the fault of the Tesla charging equipment (or perhaps its installation), not your J1772 adapter.

On my two Tesla’s it charges at 32 amps, so the install should be fine.

Oh just did a google search 7.4kw is 32amps, so the tesla charger is indeed the limiter as they max out at 32amp, the tesla universal charger does 40amps

the "amp" rating of the adapter is a bit of a misnomer - it does _NOT_ refer to any limiting the adapter performs (it can't do that) - refers to how robust the adapter is in the face of any given AMP EVSE…

you for example do not want to plug in a 40 amp TeslaTap into a 19.2 kW Tesla Gen2 Wall Charger and a Taycan with the 19.2 kW optional on board charger - the EVSE and the car will negotiate a 19.2 kW (80 amp) charging sessions - and proceed to send 80 amps through your 40-amp-rated TeslaTap - it may or may not melt under these circumstances

so the "amp rating" of these adapters is a robustness rating _NOT_ the rate of charge they will provide.
