Hey everyone, while my car was being test driven after having the recall work done, the tech said they were unable to avoid a trailer hitch that fell off the truck in front of them.

The dealer is replacing everything, but I don't know if I feel comfortable taking the car back, after what appears to be a damaged crossmember. How can I know things are actually back to normal and that issues won't compound in the future.

Looking for some second opinions here.

This does not look like it’ll buff out.

Not sure what I’d do in your place, but I’d definitely want a written letter from Porsche/PCNA that they will honor the warranty as it stood at the time of the accident before even considering taking the car back. It’s unlikely the car will escape with a clean title.

Wasn't there a member on here who says the dealer told them the HV battery warranty was voided because the plastic cover was slightly damaged. Yours has a huge rip in it. Make sure you have it in writing that it'll be covered down the road.

A couple of thoughts:
  1. If the damage is reported to an agency like Carfax, I would insist on compensation for impairment of value
  2. If the cross member is not replaced, I would insist on compensation for impairment of value.
  3. A PCNA letter including any warranty claim associated with this damage will be covered in the future.
  4. After repairs are concluded take the car to another Porsche Center to verify all work has been performed in accordance with factory specifications. Of course, the subject store should pay for the inspection.

It's nice they're replacing everything, but I own that same model hitch and honestly it's fine. It's rated for 12,000 pounds, fully welded and the scratches the car put into it won't affect performance at all. No need to have it replaced.

On a serious note I'm really happy to see the hitch didn't seem to impact the battery at all.

I would hope like hell that insurance totals it. No way I'd accept it again after that.

How much could it possibly cost?

When I had my “mistake” lowered in the parking lot that required a replace cross member it was about $17k… but it should have been about $8k. State Farm I still think got screwed by the dealer and body shop.

If it just the cross member - great - but I’d want assurance that:

1. The traction battery has not a scratch and has been tested for leakage / breach
2. The subframe assembly holding the cross member is otherwise true and cosmetically perfect
3. All other belly/under covers etc are fully replaced

Written assurance from PCNA (not the dealer) that the repaired car remains fully within all warranties etc.

Good luck ?

It was an unavoidable accident. Have the center cover and everything and more. Be nice and milk them.

Any repair, if done well will be fine. My concern would be that the big subframe part is replaceable.

The subframe is definitely replaceable.

The things I'm nervous about are the hoses leaking fluid near the wiring and or those hoses being loose and not completely checked. I do not want an electric car that has electrical gremlins.

Like others have commented here acceptable outcomes would be:
- New car
- Entire subframe assembly replaced and made sure it is within spec. Work inspected and validated by another dealership. Letter from PCNA stating future warranty items will be covered and or CPO the car. Validate there's no damage to battery.

As all are saying, completely new warranty and a loaner car during the repair.

You should WIN in this scenario , the dealership equalizing the situation doesn’t get you neutral again , the dealer and Porsche needs to compensate you somehow above and beyond neutralizing situation, we wouid call that exceptional customer service , give them a chance to make it right, see what they come up with , just realize YOU are in drivers seat NOT them
