Curious: Why is PCM styling in the Taycan so different from other new models?

Total noobie question:

My ‘23 Taycan is getting a PPF service and I got a ‘25 Macan as a loaner. One of my biggest questions is, despite the rest of the interior being really nice, why does the PCM seem so dated in comparison? It’s incredibly responsive, but the UI styling is so different from the Taycan’s you’d think it was from another company.

Is this just the typical split between gas and electric Porsches? I noticed that the EV Macan has a more Taycan-esque PCM design. Or is there another reason I’m missing? Normally I’d expect this if the Macan was older than the Taycan, but seems strange that it’s in their newest model.

I have both.

ICE Macan is still first generation and considered end of life still riding on the original platform developed in 2014. It has gone through so called revisions and currently on the 3rd revision that was introduced in 2022. Therefore, it is the only one in the Porsche portfolio that is stuck in time with PCM version 5 but it suits it very well since it is a very analog platform.

Taycan PCM is version 6.0 (CARIAD proprietary OS) that is is different from Macan EV (Android Automotive OS) which I would assume would be considered PCM 7 although they look similar.

Bottom line, there is nothing unusual about it.

Actually, PCM 5 has features that are not in the Taycan or Macan EV. For example, you can favorite your XM title or artist to be alerted when they are played, and you can easily rewind your XM songs by sliding the playing progress bar to any point you want. No such as thing on PCM 6 or 7, so if there is an hour continuous mix and I want to go back 5 minutes, I cannot in the Taycan, but I can in the ICE Macan. Also, there is a lot more customization of tiles in PCM 5.

Is it possible to flash the Taycan PCM 6 to newer version?
Since it's also different from new taycan model.

I could be wrong, but the 911 (new one at least) looks the same

2025 911 992.2, 2024 Panamera 976, 2024 Cayenne 9YA.2, Taycan J1.2 : they all look the same as the Macan EV and very close from a look and feel stand point from the Taycan J1, issued 5 years ago. Not that outdated our Taycans!

For me all look the same except for Macan EV. You clearly see the differences in the configurator for all models.
