FYI. I called Porsche customer service. They indicated that Porsche Connect which is a paid service (free for 3 yrs) is not required for OTA updates. Porsche Connect Care which is free for 10 yrs, is required, and requires you to have a Porsche ID and account setup. Paid subscription is not required for OTA updates or monitoring of battery software when released.

Maybe @Administrator can close this thread. We are way off topic. It started with OP asking if his OTA update was THE update, and we are discussing everything except that.

Funny, this was the video Youtube suggested me this morning:

Rudolph, I think your interpretation of Chun is spot on. He admittedly makes assumptions in light of Porsches limited communication and passes it off as fact, when any reasonable calm minded adult can see it’s nothing but emotional word vomit. [..]
Can you please stop the name calling, the ad hominem attacks, and behave like an adult ? Let's all take a breath and think a bit more before hitting the "Post" button.

For the software update: I highly doubt some unwillingly got the final software for beta-testing, too much risk for Porsche (and the testing would probably occur in Germany, close to the engineers developing the software).
That some being told they got the beta version of the final software without being asked first sounds like a dealership misinterpretation to me. My dealership told me I got a temporary update, but that it's NOT the final one, and it still requires coming to the dealer every 60 days (and letters from Porsche confirm I have to bring the car in regularly).

Hi Folks,
new to the forum, but have had my car for just over a year now (bought approved) and it feels like I've had enough issues in my tenure to join in the debate!
On this specific issue, following a letter in December I was contacted by Porsche GB and invited to get the software installed a few weeks ago. Apparently there were 146 customers being contacted to this end. In a subsequent email it was explained that there was still some fine-tuning of the software to be done to prevent false alarms and better understand the parameters that could be applied. This is being done at the behest of Porsche AG. Pilot phase was the description.
So far so good.....

Are you 'allowed' to charge to 100% now?

Many folk weren't precluded from this in the UK and I think the recommendation was relinquished. I never had any such warnings and have the latest updates.

My understanding, from the NTHSA recall information, is that if you have the ARB7 recall, your car is being monitored remotely and there are no charging limit restrictions. First para in the NTHSA image below. I understand there are no charging location restrictions in the US and that is/was a UK regulator thing.

For last year’s ARA4/5 recall my car was in the ARA4 ‘being remotely monitored’ set but the 80% restriction still applied.

After challenging Porsche GB that I would reject the car if I couldn’t charge it (the effect of ARB6) they relaxed the location constraint provided a maximum charge of 80% is applied. They also said that ‘some settings’ could be amended to transfer the car from ARB6 to ARB7. The car is in today to get that done. I don’t recall seeing mention of the work needed in WRS0/1 TSBs. I hope the workshop know what’s needed.

Why every car is not transferred to ARB6 to 7 at the first inspection, thereby removing all charging constraints is unclear to me - that would mean no charging restrictions, and no £ inspections every 60 days.

The images below show:
(1) Porsche GB update to me after challenging the ARB6 charging location restriction. Note the Porsche GB relaxation of this is inconsistent with the UK regulator advice, I have asked the DVSA to review that. Whilst Porsche describe the restrictions as a ‘request’, if you don’t follow them then burn down your neighbour’s house, killing his family, you’re probably on shaky ground.

(2)NTHSA Recall Information explaining the ARB6/7 difference:
Note the production end date is sometimes quoted as 1/2/2024 and other times 4/3/24.

are you able to provide a name of the person at Porsche GB (I’m guessing based at Reading PRG group) who gave you the ARB6-7 switch? My garage is also PRG, but I also strongly suspect their initial reaction will be to say you can’t do it.
If you can’t give the name maybe the department or business area they work in?

thanks.

I’ll find out today if the dealer knows what needs to be done. You might want to hold off until I can confirm there isn’t a disconnect between Porsche GB and their dealers.

Thanks. My dealership is part of Porsche GB ie PRG - their head office. Just wanting to see-off their first reaction which (happy to be proven wrong) will be ‘computer says no’. I pretty much asked if the comms could be turned on at the first inspection, but they said no then….. maybe more info out there since then.

Anyway, greatly appreciate your input on this. Would be good to not have to keep doing the 60 day thing, especially when they don’t have appointments for 3 months…..

In switzerland I got switched from ARB6 to ARB7 and back to ARB6 (since I received a 2nd ARB6 letter) all without any of my involvement. My initial ARB6 letter mentioned the parking underground limitations, than ARB7 came with 80% limitation only, and now back to ARB6 with 80% limitation only also.
The letter, beside the software being delayed, mentions that either due to car settings or lack of signal in the last 30 days, the car was not reachable OTA.

So I suspect OTA attempts are tried after the car has been parked a while. And in my case, and in switzerland in general, parkings are underground with no signal. Hence they couldn't reach my car, hence back again to ARB6.

Could also be that they just don't care and send whatever letter, due to incompetence.

Yep. My car was waiting for 3 months to fix a failed LTE connection when all this kicked off. Suspect that contributed to which camp I landed in.
