Hi all,

I see that Connect have changed from a yearly £290 to a £23/month subscription. I don't have a sub as I bought the car in March and it was already just outside of the 3 year free connect subscription. I didn't really have much of a need to buy connect as i have my own tracker and i don't much need to see the charge state remotely or open/shut windows etc.

So my question is, is there much benefit/point in grabbing a months worth just to get updated bits and bobs.

Although I don't often use the internal maps system (and speed camera notifications etc) as I have all that with using Android Auto. But it would be nice to update that map system every once in a while just in case. (whether thats worth £23 each time, I'll have to weigh up too, if thats the only real benefit I'll see).

cheers

Tracker is not included and requires a separate contract plus the two driver cards (fobs) that you have must be paired to the PCM. Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (PVTS) is hosted by Vodafone UK and accessible via My Porsche App. This means you would need both Porsche Connect and PVTS subscriptions for the Porsche Tracker service.

No speed camera notifications either with Porsche. Speed limit detection is something separate.

Monthly subscription is interesting for the other services - map & public EVSE updates for example but assumes you'll get any that's going within the first month.

I've never had it on my Macan (ICE) post the first 2 year free period but always on the Taycans (and now 992). Not missed it on the Macan - real time traffic is the only useful feature but rarely an issue.

not that it matters to me, but it still does do the "parked location" of the car i thought. (not a full on tracker). i bought a cheap gprs based gps tracker thats hardwired in with a £5 a year data sim card which provides much more than the porsche service does.

charging infrastructure, again, can just use other apps (octopus have an app as are others out there)

do i guess it's not going to give me any meaningful updates which could be useful for a period of time such as maps/charger locations. I've just checked my PCM and it says that the nav updates are from december 2024, so i guess i'm not missing out on much in terms of updates anyway on that (and it was always only going to be ever used as a last resort satnav)

I'll give it a miss for a bit and might do it to get updated maps next year sometime then when the maps are a bit more out of date

The Porsche (Vodafone) service is more sophisticated than you give it credit for to be fair. Includes 24x7 Security Operating Centre, remote possibilities (with Police involvement) to disable the car (I got that from the SoC), ticks all the insurance Thatcham rating requirements and so on.

No location data provided if no active Porsche Connect services - caveat is that I can only check my Macan which has no services and advises such when attempting to locate and suspect the Taycan to be no different. I guess your tracker does that in any case.

New cars all come with 10 years service connectivity.
