Feel better about depreciation by figuring out how much you SAVED by buying your Taycan when you did! Just go to the configurator now and do a build that includes only the options you have and no more, and see how much more it would cost you if you were to buy it now.

I'll start. This is the build of the 2026 Taycan GTS ST that's closest to mine:
https://porsche-code.com/PT1TDVE5

The sticker price is $176,400.
The sticker price of my 2023 GTS ST is $157K. That's nearly $20K more!
...and I got it (CPO) in 2024 with 900 miles on it for $127K.

...so I SAVED nearly $50K!

Do you get a wee bit more performance, charging speed, and range now? Yes, but is that worth $50K? Nah - plus I bet the infotainment stuff is just as bad in the 2026 cars...

Have I looked at the blue book value of my car to see its depreciation? No I have not! 😄

Give it a shot. Post here with your savings. ;)

Good job on your getting your Taycan’s GTS ST CPO at a greatly reduced price!

At the same time, that major MSRP pricing increase experience is not unique to Taycan for the 911’s 2026 entry MSRP is also $20,000 more than the 911’s 2024 MSRP.

Ok, I’ll play. I bought this 2020 9,000 mile Turbo S in 2023 for £89,000 so saved £82,474 ($110,000).

Deals 20-25% below MSRP on new cars (Taycan), at least in Europe. Stock cars sometimes -30%. Nobody buys Taycan on list price. Even GT3s available MSRP -5% from stock.
So the comparison should be corrected.

Haha. Good stuff. Maybe I’m in the lesser percentage here, but at PORSCHE level… I simply don’t care about depreciation. If I did, which is fair to some…I’d only lease it. After any large purchase I have a wee bit of buyers remorse (we all do), but that takes about 24-48 hours to go away, having known that I planned for it for over a year, many years. Check the boxes you want and just love it. Let insurance and warranty take care of of the rest!

My build is frozen now….June can’t come soon enough. Once I have it, I will never look at competing prices ever again!!!!!!!!

You're still eating the depreciation with a lease. You just don't have anything to show for it after the lease.

$178k --> $197k on a GTS ST

These were notable changes'
1. I had the most expensive wheels the Exclusive Design with CF aeroblades. This design changed in j.1.2, though the pricing was very close. I prefer the new design.

2. I have the glacier blue headlight tint and in j1.2 it forces you to purchase a LED headlight upgrade at $2400

3. My black/chalk interior is mostly chalk with black door leather and center seat. In the j1.2 it's about 50% black.

4. I was unable to add heated steering wheel with Racetex with my leather and ACC package, but that's another $500

A lot of the price increase is attributed to the base price. The j1.1 GTS ST was $136k vs $159k. Options were all about the same cost. If I were to build my preferred car, it would come in at $176k, mostly due to cheaper wheels, interior and a few other unnecessary options

There is now in Canada an expensive luxury tax which didn't exist in my time (Jan 2022 Delivery). So in total savings it is $43,000 Cdn and taking out the luxury tax it is $25,000 Cdn after 4 years. So without the luxury tax it is an average increase in price of 3.5%.... It is a bit higher than the general inflation but still not too bad. What is hurting us the most is truly the luxury tax here.

I bought my 2022 Turbo S CT, fully specced 20 months old for 107K Euro. MSRP was 244K Euro.
To me a super bargain, and I still feel that way about this excellent car.

This would be my window-sticker today:
https://porsche-code.com/PTBDVXE3

Shy on 260K Euro is "less" than I thought it would be.

MSRP for building a 2026 with my options is $157,457.
MSRP for my actual 2022 4CT was $136,350.
The original owner also paid for PPF (which works quite well) and window tinting (which seems odd for a Seattle driver).

I paid $97,345 in August 2023 with 18,375 miles.
I'm now at ~66k miles. So I've driven it ~2.6x what the original owner drove.

If focusing only on diminution of resale value:
  • Original owner probably paid about $2.66 per mile (based upon a rough estimate of $10k for wholesale vs retail resale value)
  • I've paid about $1.20 per mile so far (based upon a highly pessimistic estimate of its current resale value).
  • If I hold onto it for another couple years until my dream i3 M Touring is available (and I'm beyond both the federal HV battery warranty and my aftermarket service plan), then, hmm, maybe $0.80 per mile (based upon even an more pessimistic estimate of its resale value then).

Well said. 👌🏼

Besides, you don't have any depreciation if you don't sell your car.
I'm more into appreciation.
I'm getting so sick of all the topics about depreciation.
Today I drove the car again and I just love it, best car I've ever owned.

Btw, my car would cost over €255.000 now.
That's an increase of +€40.000 in 6 years.
That's pure appreciation right there! 🥰

I got my new 2024 GTS ST with a substantial discount so £103k to £130k

But the biggest kicker is the PCP increase from £1k / month to £2k, even though the interest rate is less now. I love this car but I’d find it hard to justify doubling the payments for a new one.

You are 100% correct.
Depreciation is realized when car is sold. Ultimately, the cost needs to be understood even as you own the car, I track this cost multiple times a year to ensure my cost of ownership is tracking to my estimate.

But agreed, if you enjoy driving the car, that's where the true derived value is. Yesterday, I had a blast driving the kids around to their sports events, and on the highway I ran into 3 GTSs (1 a j1.2) and 2 base/4S models. The most Taycans I've ever seen in a day, and it was an absolute blast to drive

This is my equivalent build for the j1.2. https://porsche-code.com/PT55ZDZ9

Honestly aside from the new Exclusive Design wheels, updated PCM and range, I still prefer the j1.1 bumper style, it makes the GTS very distinctive.

But man the new Exclusive Design wheels is 🤤 as my equivalent would have these CF elements
