hey folks,

A quick, maybe slightly naive question - is J 1.2 still worth buying or are we nearing a big J2.1 (ow however it is going to be called) update?

After my J1.1 was sold a year ago, I am now finding myself gravitating back to the EV idea and, naturally, back to Taycan, which seems to remain one of the most exciting EVs. How far in the cycle are we and are there any substantiated rumors about the new gen?

Thanks!

No concrete news on a J1.3 let alone a J2.1, so a good time to buy. Estimates are 2029 I believe for a facelift or new model, at least that's what I keep being told.

I sold j1.1 Gts last year which was a bit too stiff for my liking, range wasn’t optimal neither. I have recently bought CT4 facelift and modded with mapEV. Absolute life hack for a great daily blending comfort and performance. Much better efficiency and range as well. Go for it

This is what I’ve heard. You get a 4 and make a Turbo out of it due to the similarity of the drivetrain. It must void the warranty though?

Is a J2 even coming? I thought Porsche was considering the Taycan a failed experiment?

Seems like the Macan and the Cayenne is what they're currently gambling on.

How is it a failed experiment if the market at it's peak shifted to buying more taycan then panamera?
the SUV EV market is different, and that's a great bet, i think that what is going to flip the tables and be a game changer on the taycan is a proper caymen/boxster EV, currently in the US it's a non existent segment and in europe it's china imports market.
This is what Google AI pulled comparing Panamera/Taycan:
Year | Taycan Deliveries | Panamera Deliveries | Market Summary
2020 | 20,015 | 25,051 | Taycan's first full year closely trails the Panamera.
2021 | 41,296 | 30,220 | Taycan sales peak, more than doubling and beating the Panamera.
2022 | 34,801 | 34,142 | Supply chain and part bottlenecks narrow the Taycan's lead.
2023 | 40,629 | 34,020 | Taycan rebounds; Panamera slows ahead of its redesign.
2024 | 20,836 | 29,587 | Trend reverses; Taycan drops 49% due to cooled EV demand.
2025 | 16,339 | 27,701 | Panamera outsells the Taycan, supported by strong gas/hybrid demand.

A failed experiment is any model that doesn’t make money.

Sales volume only tells part of the story and EVs need significantly higher volumes to turn a profit.

For the OP- if you’re worried about a new model coming out, buy a used 2025 at a HUGE discount. Then a new 2028 or 2029 won’t matter as much if you want to swap for one in the future.

its still coming, it's just not going to be a dedicated ev platform anymore - it's gonna share platform with panamera, just different tunning. But these are rumors for now.

Porsche typically runs a .1 for 4 years, then a .2 for another 4 years. Then they go for a full re-design. In the case of the Taycan, it's been "rocky" from a sales volume and geo-political standpoint. No guarantees that they would do another full re-design given what has taken place in the last 6-7 years. If they go for it, high likelihood that they will be punished by the stock market, at least initially.

There's a lot of value in 2022 models at the moment.
