If the 12V battery gets low, is it enough to just turn on and then off the car and the car will charge the 12V battery?

If the 12V battery gets low, is it enough to just turn on and then off the car and the car will charge the 12V battery?

I’m planning to give my keys to the neighbor so he can turn on and off the car one time a week to make sure that the 12V does not die while I am away for 2 months.

Is it enough to turn the car on and off and the 12V battery will charge or do I need to power on the car and leave it on for 30 minutes for it to charge?

what is my best option?

People will say you don't need to do any of that, that the car will take care of it by itself ... and if it doesn't, there is an issue with your 12v.

A month ago my 12v was drained after sitting for 2 weeks, and prior to those 2 weeks I only used the car for super short trips twice a week for about 3 months ... not enough to keep the battery topped up, so it may have been very low to start with.

Now I occasionally turn it "on" in my garage, turn off the headlights/ac, I can see the battery goes from 13.2v to 14.2 instantly, meaning it's charging ... once it drops down to about 13.5v it means its full again
I think after 30 minutes the car shuts off on its own.

Don't think just turning it on and off again is enough? Need to keep it turned on I'd say.

There is an active Campaign on the 12v battery sensor to stop the 12v battery going flat - maybe check if yours is due before you leave it

Correct procedure is:
  1. Turn on vehicle.
  2. Sit in driver seat.
  3. Wait for screen to turn on.
  4. Observe 12V rail voltage (should be displayed on right, if not configure display appropriately).
  5. Voltage should start out at around 13.5V.
  6. If the 12V battery needs to be charged the voltage displayed will rise, after a few seconds, to around 14V.
  7. Watch the voltage until it drops back to 13.5V or so (less than 14V). This means the 12V battery has been charged. This can take a couple of minutes.
  8. Turn vehicle off.
  9. Exit vehicle.

Is there a way you can lock the car while still keep it on?

You should get the 12V recall done ASAP, it's 100% broken on your car.
If it does not help probably your battery is defective.

It's a lithium battery so when everything is fine it charges extremely quickly. Even a very short trip is enough to have it at full charge.

I really can't tell you how long you should shit, probably you have a better idea about that.

But the whole process is pretty pointless. If you are at the point where the car dies all the time when you don't do this stupid stuff, then there is something broken. Get the recall done and if that doesn't help then the battery needs to be replaced.

I used my Taycan for pretty much only short trips for 9 months, let it sit for over 6 weeks at some point and never had a single battery issue or warning.
