If you don’t have time and/or the preference to watch the video, here’s the summary with about 35 degree F average temperature throughout his four hour range test. Thank you Tom.

This is definitely a J1.2 range. My 24’ ST GTS is struggling to approach 280 kms in the same weather conditions.
I wish I could get his range.

It's too bad that Tom couldn't do the range test when the temps in NJ were in the single digits and teens this past month. Here in New England, with temps below 20 deg F, I was getting 170-180 miles of range in my 2021 CT4 with 20-inch wheels with winter tires. I got close to 165-170 miles (range extrapolated because I never charged to 100% the last couple of months) when driving in temps that were in the single digits (F), which happened quite a bit this past month (Jan.-Feb. 2026). The first-gen Taycan is pretty poor in very cold weather. So I'm eager to hear how the second-gen Taycan with improved battery pack and drivetrain tech is in this regard. With temps in the 30s (F), I'm getting around 190-200 miles at 70 mph, so Tom is getting about 90 miles more range with the second-gen Taycan -- maybe 10-20 miles less if adjusting for some battery degradation in my Taycan (65k miles on my car's odometer). I also never use Range mode; I just keep it in normal mode all the time, and I do not scrimp on cabin heat when I drive (if I were to just use my heated seats and no air-vent heat, I would get another 20-25 miles of range at least).

What size and style of wheels and tires do you have?

I’m running 21” RS Spyders and I’m curious about how much range they’re eating. My problem is that the very best way to find out is to do the same drive with 20’s with a flatter design on and see. But then I need to buy a third set of wheels and sell one after. I’m bound to get stuck with them until next fall if not longer!

For those that are particularly concerned with efficiency, it's really important to check/adjust your tire pressure monthly. If you live in a place where the temp changes significantly throughout the year, you will get a big benefit from monthly adjustments both in efficiency and the life of the tires.

What wheel size and pressures are you running for winter tires?

I decided against winter tires for my Taycan. I run 21” All Seasons at the pressures recommended on the door jamb (41/44) all year…works great.

I’m glad it works for you. In my case I need snows. I actually drive on snow and in bad conditions and there’s no way I’d trust our safety to all seasons. They simple don’t perform on the snow the way a proper snow tire does.

The picture below wouldn’t look as good with all seasons!

The picture would look the same but winter tires do make sense for some situations. This season where I live has been very snowy and cold…the A/S did great when called upon. I decided against winter tires because I have the choice to drive the Taycan or one of our other cars. I generally choose the car that I am comfortable putting on the road with the other drivers….most of whom are not on winter tires where I live.

We have two houses. 250 kms apart, and since one is in the country and our driveway is 1 km long I can’t trust a/s tires. I do have a car for when the weather gets too bad for snows! An FJ cruiser with serious snows and chains if needed. So we’re the same, just your 11 is my 10 and when I turn it up to 11 the snow can be a foot deep and I’m still mobile!
