As a card carrying member of the black Taycan club, I am biased against any color other than black, but I did see a cherry metallic, once, in a dealer showroom (never in the wild) and was really blown away. It was just a stunningly beautiful car. I wouldn't worry at all about resale value vs...
Lot's of comments here to the contrary, but I think you are spot on. When you live by the sword, you die by the sword! Porsche, and others, have lived by the ICE/chassis sword for a long time and are now having trouble adjusting to a world in which superior engine tech -- a defensible...
I did indeed! And I have some more pics to post demonstrating my self-taught sound deadening techniques. The car is very, very quiet at 80-85 mph even with OEM Good Year 21 inch tires. My dB readings are consistently in the low to mid 60's on asphalt highways but who knows if the cheap-ass dB...
Call the lads at 800 PORSCHE in Atlanta and politely ask WTF? They will open a case, send you a form letter advising you to (1) chill for another six weeks and (2) call them again if you don't see a check in 6 more weeks. But, if you press a little for details about the inexcusable delay (four...
I had this happen. Took the car to dealer to have a look and, as if by magic, the problem could not be replicated. My guess is that the gremlin will not show up again until the car is out of warranty. But in the meantime, no annoying alarm when I lock the car.
Update on road noise project. Yesterday afternoon, I finished installing sound deadener and sound absorbers on all four wheels. I have not yet had the chance to take a long drive with my trusty Amazon dB meter to quantify the results, but subjectively the noise level is much improved. I'll...
If hanging around Zurich, consider an afternoon trip to Jenins (pic below). It is a quaint little village with a few vineyards and restaurants. Good place to chill with the family. Another place about the same distance as Zermatt from Zurich is Andermatt (where the James Bond movie Goldfinger...
Whether black is a color or just the absence of all color is a subject that has been debated for centuries. As a proud member of the Black Taycan Club, I am pleased to report that Porsche has, once and for all, settled the debate by defining "Black" as an "Exterior Color" on the configurator...
I just hope that Porsche does not someday pull a douchebag move (like their pal Elon) and classify black as a PTS color. But I do think it is great that Porsche allows folks with bad taste, i.e. those who prefer a color other than black, to get exactly what they like. ?
More encouraging progress on the road noise front. After completing the same procedure on the front passenger side wheel well as I performed last week on the driver's side, I have achieved a significant reduction in tire noise.
For sure my dB meter is a crude $50 device from Amazon...
Porsche bought me a new Grizzl-E dumb charger to replace the even dumber charger that came with the car. To my surprise it arrived with a 25 foot cable. Could come in handy. With the Grizzl-E, I charge at 8.8 kW which takes me back to full (80%) in one to two hours based on my daily commute...
For sure I will document the door panel removal, disassembly and reassembly. My go-to sound absorption material is 3M Thinsulate which has an excellent noise reduction coefficient (NRC) for the 500-1000 Hz range (typical of airborne tire noise frequencies). Problem is that it is a bit fluffy...
I have not yet taken measurements on a concrete-paved portion of interstate, just on asphalt which tends to be pretty quiet. I am looking forward to seeing results on a noisy stretch.
Actually, I'm not at all disappointed, yet. Just one of four wheels complete, and nothing on the doors, so way too early to render a sound judgment (pun intended). From what I have researched, one must take a wholistic approach and hit every possible area for maximum results. Every dB adds up...
Some pics of the beginning of what I hope will be an epic sound deadening project.
The plan: Start with wheel wells, install sound absorbing material where possible, and minimize resonance where possible. From there, move on to door panels and do the same. My suspicion is that I will get...
Truer words were never spoken. I used a 25 torx and a 10 mm socket, lossened up everything and popped it right out this morning. Buuuuuut, and it's a big buuuuuut, putting it back in after wrapping it in Thinsulate as I did this morning is a mother f****er for one person! I'll post some pics...
