No, I don't own a Tesla. I bought TSLA very early on and am in agreement with Musk's vision of pushing for an EV vehicle future.
I took a close look at a Model 3P that someone brought last year to a National Drive Electric event I attended last year. While I didn't get to drive it, certainly...
Hypermiling? I didn't see anything about that. I'm interpreting this as Porsche saying they did about 289 miles (270 plus 39 left) in real world driving conditions. Temperature was probably in the 70s so most likely not having to deal with heater nor heavy AC use.
You seem to think this was...
Not quite. Porsche did a real world test from Niagara Falls down to NYC in a Taycan. While I'm guessing they probably drove it to somewhat conserve battery, they did 250 miles, and with 39 miles of remaining range, they stopped to charge for the remainder of the trip. The WLTP rating for the...
Thanks for posting. Porsche is famous for being conservative on any specs they provide, so this seems very reasonable given the information they provided at the premiere.
I read through your post and find the only thing we agree on is enjoying driving our Porsches. IMO, the tech numbers are fantastic and I personally don't have a problem with the range. Time will tell whether perspective owners will agree with my view or yours.
If you really believe that the "undisputed expert in EVs" engineers a better vehicle then Porsche, you're probably better off with a Tesla. Lets see whose vehicles turn out to be more reliable. I'm betting it will be a company with 70 years of endurance racing heritage.
I can't imagine...
It will be interesting to see what Porsche recommends for the car regarding servicing the brakes. I know Porsche recommends flushing the brake fluid every 2 years (at least on the 2014 Cayman; am guessing this is true for all their vehicles). I believe a good chunk of the braking on the Taycan...
I think you're spot on with your assessment of Tesla, in particular your comment of them not currently being a sustainable business. Things will only get tougher for them now that the largest car manufacturer on the planet is moving full-force into EVs. My impression is Musk's goal for Tesla...
I was thinking the same thing. Given how quiet EVs tend to be, I wonder if the gasket is larger just to reduce the road noise inside the cabin? I agree that this most likely isn't due to additional camouflage on the door, but I could be wrong.
So your point is that Tesla can go further on a given battery capacity than Porsche? Without knowing the range details on Porsche, that may be true. Is this why you are saying Tesla is so much further along EV tech-wise than Porsche?
There are many things that go into the cars range.
"Tesla...
As I said, "year's ahead" is Tesla fanboy FUD. You can believe what you want.
I got a ride in a Model 3P last year and while I was impressed with the acceleration, there is no way I could have lived with the quality. While I didn't like the fit and finish, I was particularly shocked at the...
A couple comments from reading the thread:
- I've been driving an EV as my daily commuter car and one thing I didn't expect was how much of a difference in range you see depending on not only how hard you drive it, but even more the air temperature and use of the climate control (heat and A/C)...
While it may not be the best choice, if it turns out you need a car only a few times a year for a long trip, one alternative might be to just rent a car. Early on after the BMW i3 first came out, some of their dealers would let you borrow an ice vehicle for an occasional long trip. I don't...
