Do we know who makes the cells in the new J1.2 battery. We know they switched to a 8-1-1 chemistry, and I've seen mentioned that they dumped LG. Who makes the new modules?
Another thing, they don't open batteries in dealer. To ship out your old battery change modules, have your car without a pack sitting at the dealer, and pay for specialized transport back and forth makes no sense, IF this happens its going to be entire pack swaps.
^bingo!
This is incorrect sadly. 4.2 volts is about the limit for the NMC 8-1-1 chemistry they moved to. This change from NMC7-1-2 is a big part of what yielded the higher energy density.
Ok, that makes sense about the cell layout. But I would love clarification on what your saying here. You believe there is enough headroom on the new cells that they will run them at a higher voltage range on the warranty vehicles so that the voltage is comparable to the original battery...
You don't understand how battery packs work. Each cell has a fully charged voltage of about ~4.2 volts, each module has 12 cells. There's 33 modules in the Performance Plus. Half of the total cells are wired in series to get to 835 volts, then each half is wired together in parallel to double...
Most likely its the full pack from J1.2 and just software locked. They would have to make and distribute a whole different battery just for warranty claims if they removed cells, additionally the voltage would be off. Now yes, they could reconfigure the series and parallel setup to get the...
