That's funny, because it was Gemini who originally recommended the jumper cables. I did the LED matrix upgrade on my car. It took me all day, but mainly because I was ultra cautious in navigating PIWIS for the first time. If I were to do it again, it would probably take about an hour.
I'm no electrical engineer, but I think you just want to prevent battery drain from letting your Taycan 12v drop too low from all of the accessory usage, and a running engine with jumpers will keep the Taycan battery voltage up while hooked up to PIWIS.
I just did the coding to activate the Euro spec matrix headlights. My car already has ALK, so I never looked into if it can be activated and what needs to be coded. But if you can find out which modules and what changes, the PIWIS setup I got would allow you to do the coding.. If you google "ALK...
Doing the coding DYI should not be a problem for anyone comfortable using PIWIS. I note that you do need to have engineering mode, and for the Taycan I believe you also need the latest version of PIWS v.3. I had first attempted/failed at first using 2 earlier versions as well as the cheaper 6154...
I have only had one nighttime drive so far, and going on 40-50mph roads I found the matrix function was coming on and off a lot. Not sure if getting it to do the self-calibration will improve that or not. Does your blue light stay on when you are on non-highways or is it normal for it to switch...
Mine is a '23 GTS with regular Matrix (not HD). The change to PIWIS 4 (which requires a subscription) I believe applies to cars born sometime in 3Q 2023, but mine still uses PIWIS 3. The side markers are off after the activation because you are adopting the European light scheme that only uses...
I ended up doing the Matrix activation as a DIY. There are a lot of threads about setting up a cheap PIWIS with a $40 and a free or near-free bootleg PIWIS installed in a VM, but after spending many hours trying to make that work, I found that for a Taycan you absolutely need the most recent...
Yes, would very much want to see if a coder would be cost/time effective. Please feel free to DM me if you prefer.
I am pretty good with tech, and have already have a working version of PIWIS 3 v38.4, which is too old of a version & doesn't work with Taycan. I was looking to get a newer...
I have been wandering through this rabbit hole for the last 24 hours trying to figure out if a DIY is possible to unlock my matrix on my 2023 Taycan. Does anyone know what version of PIWIS is needed?
I looked at the Rennline version, and I figured out that they are selling the exact same Chinese aftermarket part as this:
