Cool, so an upgraded suspension? I drove a fairly new one at the time. I drove it pretty hard while test driving it. Pretty much the feel you describe. Was fun but I wanted a bit more control so ordered the Cayman S with PASM. So nice. Shouldn’t have sold that car.
Mr, yes. Haha! I found the 996 guy! The 996 just felt really squirmy in the rear to me. My opinion doesn’t count for much, I’ve owned 2 Caymans and loved them. Chose my 987 over a 996 at the time. Worse than that, I’m a Californian. Sold my 2015 981 S to get my Tesla model 3. The M3 is more fun...
Try the performance version of the model 3. Active suspension and better seats. I haven't tried it yet but would be my first choice. Taycan and Model S are too large for me.
I'd say 996 is the worst driving Porsche. At least the Boxster has better weight balance :)
Sure, they don’t have to use Rivian’s electronic platform. Using their platform doesn’t mean they’d have to use Rivian-made or sourced electronics. It just means they’d need compatible stuff. Maybe they would want to roll their own interior lighting controllers, window controllers, etc, but that...
I wonder what this means for VW/Porsche using the Rivian electronics platform that VW are investing billions in. Moving to that platform requires some hardware standardization for various system components so maybe Porsche not willing to do that. If not, Porsche will have even more difficulty...
Good to see this perspective. Please stick around and provide updates.
Interesting observation about the acceleration.
My big worry about the Taycan is the 2-speed transmission. Maybe that's because I just had to replace my Macan PDK for $22K (got lucky, had the extended warrantee).
Is anyone tracking all the known issues with the 2020? That would be super useful. I know there was a nice list for my 2015 Macan on MacanForums. When I took delivery I made sure the dealer went though every item.
To state the obvious, the 2020 is the first model year. I got a first model year 2015 Macan and it had issues that took 2 years to sort out and that's an ICE car. Software has never been a strong point for Porsche on top of that. That will have to change for them but it won't happen over night...
Hi @arijaycomet, thanks so much for the detailed thoughtful response. You nailed it. I'm very tech savvy so these issues and workarounds would be something I could deal with but, frankly, I'm just not in hurry to be an early adopter on such a significant purchase. That's ironic if you knew me...
I've been asking myself the same question as I look into the Taycan. My vote would be air suspension, battery+, ACC as the minimum options but when I speced out the base I got to $105k (doh!). Porsche tuned AS is something you can't get in other cars and gives the car comfort and performance...
I really hope Porsche addresses this in the coming years. My 2015 Macan rear camera (replaced once in 2016 by dealer and got slightly better) is very poor quality as soon as the light level gets low. Almost unusable- can't see important details well. In daylight it's fine. My old 2013 Prius...
Have you folks watched the YouTube video for the EV Cannonball? They had so many issues with EA charging. The 150kw chargers were generally OK but the fast chargers failed often and depended heavily on battery temperature (SOC was sub 5% most of the time). I wonder if the new base Taycan...
Honest question: Does that also apply to the new base Taycan? 5.1 sec 0-60. I'm trying to convince myself that's OK but that Model 3 performance is really fast and 1/2 the cost of the base once you add some basic options (my build was $105k). My 981 Cayman S is faster by almost a second and is...
