I’m looking at a 2020 Turbo, 18k miles perfect color and options and comparing it against a 2022 4S with 9k miles but not as well optioned (but still with the basics I want) and in a color I can live with but not a first choice.

Neither car is CPO and both are in excellent condition with one owner car fax. Both are similarly priced at under 100k.

I know there are a lot of strong views against getting a 2020 first year car which I get. This Turbo was a launch vehicle and sat on a local dealer floor for a year and was sold in 2021 with only 50 miles so assume it wasn’t a demo but rather a showpiece to get customers to place orders.

Any additional risks to buying a launch vehicle that sat idle for a year? My head says go with the 22 4S because it is newer with lower miles but my heart says take the risk on the Turbo.

Thoughts?

;)

As regards your situation, it’s a tough call. When I was ordering my 22 in late 21, my dealer offered me a new, leftover, nearly identical spec ‘20 Turbo for only $5k more. But for a few options on it I didn’t like, I might have done it. My SA warned me against the 20 due to early problems, but I think those have all been sorted now through recalls and updates.

This is not a car you buy with your head. Cause if you were buying it with your head, you wouldn’t buy it at all.
if your Heart says Turbo…
However keep in mind I am on my third wife. Always followed my Heart/dick… I am not the best to give suggestions…

I’m also with following your heart/dick, although I’m still with my first wife. Get the Turbo and no regrets later.

Personally, I wouldn’t go for either car. CPO is the way to go for a pre-owned Taycan.

Porsche USA has a 4 year standard warranty unlike our crappy 2, so it should still be covered. Then, once the time comes, just buy extended warranty coverage, no?

If CPO, then, my understanding is, that you must buy from a dealer, and likely, pay a lot more for it (plus likely more in taxes, like in California, vs private party).

Yes it has about 16 months of warranty left and was thinking the same thing.

Porsche CPO is the real deal…unlike most manufacturers. CPO and new is my minimum standard these days. Of course, there is always the possibility of finding a good used Porsche for a deal…if that is your kind of thing.

Keeping your heart/dick pointing at your first wife allows you to point them at more pricey toys. Ex-wives are way more expensive than a Turbo S.

After looking at them again, decided to pass on both. Will keep looking for the right fit.

I'd consider @Archimedes car for the price point + getting a fidelity extended warranty. Assuming the options list is in the realm of what you were looking for.

There are so many used Taycans out there, I’m sure he’ll find something that fits his preferences. My car’s a performance 4S build, so not to everyone’s liking.

Agreed with others wait for a CPO car. Always turbo over 4S for the same price

Ended up buying a 2020 CPO Turbo with 15K miles a few months ago and absolutely love it. Wait for CPO; worth the peace of mind.
