Amber offers three plans ranging from two-to-five years at monthly cost of $60-$120 with different levels of coverage including the cost of the one component that has caused some consumers to shy away from buying a battery-electric vehicle.
“There are many different components to that high voltage system that may result in what seems to be a battery issue, but yes, the answer is we definitely cover the battery in the drive unit through our high voltage or essentials program, and also our premium coverage program,” said Pak. “But in addition, I think the more important thing is that we cover all these other components. For example, your battery has a thermal management system and for your Tesla that's a really important system for us to cover because if that goes down your battery can't be heated, it can't be cooled.”
. . .
Right now Amber is only offering extended warranties for Teslas because the brand dominates the EV market and owners can manage repairs provided by Amber vendors through the Tesla app.
But as the company grows, so will the range of brands Amber covers.
“We get plenty of interest from owners of (Chevrolet) Bolts, for example, or Ford Mustang Mach E and actually we've been seeing a lot of demand from Rivian owners as well,” said Pak. “You know, it's something that we'll look at over the next 12 to 24 months.”
