I’ve had 2 emails from Germany suggesting I owe money and must transfer cash and the JP morgan one that also looks dodgy. Referred all to Porsche Customer care.

So how come they have got people's email details?

Have VWFS been hacked somewhere along the line?

That is an excellent question we probably will never know the answer to. While is possible that VWFS has been compromised in some way, it is probably more likely they shared their contact list, for a fee of course, with their "business partners" or "advertisers" and a leak occurred at one of those organizations. I've been using customized email addresses for decades by now, using wildcard email addresses, so that I can use a specific email address for a specific site and never reuse it. You'd be surprised how many of those emails which I only gave out to a single "reputable" organization (including government) end up getting spammed after a while. Companies monetize whatever they can, and that includes mailing lists of their customers.

PS> Using different email addresses is a bit of a pain, but it does provide interesting information back, including making it easier to quickly recognize spam if I get an email pretending to be for a certain organization but it used an email that I never gave to that organization.

Thanks for the info. I got it as well. It seems legitimate at a first glance. I was going to log in if I have not seen the post in advance.
Thanks again

Good rule of thumb, never click on links in emails. If you believe the email, login to the organization site/app directly.

It's legitimate, just poorly executed.

Received an email from Porsche today referencing the JP Morgan email. Appears JP Morgan jumped the gun but no indication of a data breach or malicious actor.

Or the email from Porsche was faked too. Emails are trivially easily faked.

Hey guys, I received these emails too. I have a Skoda, but it also runs through VW Bank. Since the two emails also seemed strange to me, I called VW Financial Service directly. The lady on the hotline confirmed to me that the emails were real. So it's actually not spam.

I registered specifically for this forum, even though I don't have a Porsche. Since I always think about emails like this and Google couldn't give me an answer, I thought I would like to inform you about it

I also complained about this on the hotline. She told me that it would be enough if you logged in directly to the portal. Then you automatically confirm this change. Nevertheless, I pointed out again that this email was written very unfavorably. In fact, I received the message in the first email that I agreed to the new agreements. I also logged in that day. I only received the second email with the link yesterday. The hotline told me that was an automatically generated email. This went to every customer. Even if you have already agreed to it automatically by logging in.

If these guys are training customers to be insecure, imagine their own internal IT processes. No wonder we hear about so many breaches lately.
