Looking at charging now I have an order in place. At one end of my house is a blue 3 point socket that previous owners used to plug in a caravan. I understand they come in 16 and 32 amp. I am guessing this is 16 looking at the cover - does anyone know for certain if I am correct?
Thanks

Yes That is a 16 amp socket . Should work just fine with any EVSE with a suitable plug and lead. Will give you some 3.5 kW

If you can get this upgraded to 32A to get twice the throughput for home charging (7.4kW) on your existing single phase supply - home charging will be so much better / optimised for overnight 35% - 85% charging during off peak hours.

I think it comes off the ring main rather than an extra fuse, so I doubt it is possible to upgrade. I may be wrong but would probably need an electrician to tell me

EDIT - it looks like you shouldn’t take a 16A socket off the ring main so maybe it is a separate circuit that can be upgraded. I will investigate further

Get a sparky - should be possible - even if it means adding a mini-supply board off your existing if no spare slot. The benefit significantly outweighs the minor pain in getting there.

I have investigated. It comes off the ring main - I don’t think it should do this, but it does. It is therefore a 16amp socket protected by a 32amp fuse. Best not to use it for anything I think. Will need to start again with a proper dedicated wire and circuit off the fuse box. Oh well.
