Tried using the connect app 'explore' on an iphone Xs Max to plan charging stops. Appears the app is defective as will find destination but will not show the charging stops or alternative routes. Porsche press release mentioned this functionality "The Charging Planner is also available in the Connect app for further convenience. This makes it easy to plan your trip in advance at home and transmit it to the vehicle." This clearly is not working in the app although it does work in the PCM.

Error message at the top comes back as 'The route could not be calculated. Please make sure your smartphone is connected to the internet and then try again later.' Obviously connected to internet as app is able to search for the destination.

Tried solving with the support group but seem clueless as to how it is supposed to work on the app or on a computer on the website.

Anyone else able to get this function working?

Sent an email to Mayk Wienkötter Spokesperson E-Mobility & Model Line Taycan as it was in his press release.

EV Road warrior software tools

https://www.evtripplanner.com/ - you can model the Taycan as a Model S P85D for approximate parity

plugshare.com or the app
chargepoint.com or the app
electrifyamerica.com or the app
Blink or the app
EVGo or the app

Porsche Connect app
Porsche Apps in General
Charge NA (free EA charging)

for road tripping with a Taycan I would suggest the following charging network are your ”pecking” order from best to worst choices to rely on
  1. Electrify America
  2. EVGo
  3. ChargePoint
  4. Blink
use plugshare to plan and evaluate the reliability of chargers along your route - look for RECENT check’ins that state the charger is known to be working - avoid relying on charging stops with no recent check’ins or recent problems..

I also use plugshare to evaluate and plan my overnights - by choosing hotels with EV charging support - a simple phone call to the hotel to confirm the EV charger is currently functional will save a world of hurt

I have accounts with _ALL_ the major EV charging networks so that time at their chargers is minimized in terms of activating a charging session. You’ll save a lot of time/hassel if your account is setup/ready-to-go when you pull up to a charger and want to simply plug-in and walk away to your rest stop and bio-break.

for full over the top EV road warrior kit see this thread

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/ev-roadwarrior-adapters-“kit”.1364/

however the ”minimum” kit I would travel with is as follows:
  1. Mobile EVSE in the car with me (Porsche’s charger meets this criteria)
  2. NEMA 14-50 supply cable
  3. JDapter or TeslaTap for overnight L2 charging @ hotels w/Tesla L2 chargers
  4. Existing accounts with the major EV charging networks for best experience at the charger - setting up some of these apps can take a while with crappy wireless coverage and buggy apps.
a ’better” kit is:
  1. Mobile Charger that supports L1 & L2 charging (Porsche’s charger does not support L1 charging)
  2. NEMA 5-15 adapter (household plug - overnight L1 charging can recover 20-30% battery)
  3. NEMA 5-20 adapter (engine block heater plugs - 30% faster than NEMA 5-15)
  4. NEMA 14-50 adatper
  5. NEMA 5-20 extension cord w/NEMA 5-15 adapter for dual use
  6. NEMA 14-30 adapter
  7. JDapter or TeslaTap
  8. Existing accounts with the major EV charging networks for best experience at the charger - setting up some of these apps can take a while with crappy wireless coverage and buggy apps.

Yes the Porsche Connect App is nearly useless for trip planning.

BTW: here is a picture of the "filter" settings for Plugshare for charging a Taycan - the Tesla plug type is only supported _IF_ you have purchased a JDAapter/TeslaTap - there are four plug types you can charge the Taycan with:
  • CCS/SAE (fast charging)
    • no equipment required in the frunk to use these chargers - just the car.
  • J-1772 - L2 - normally 6 kW (sometimes more/less)
    • no additional equipment in the frunk required to use this equipment - just the car
  • Tesla - L2 - normally at least 9.6 kW (sometimes more/less - more doesn't matter for Taycan)
    • requires JDApter/TeslaTap stored in your frunk to use one of these chargers.
  • NEMA 14-50 - 9.6 kW - can be found at hotels, workshops, campgrounds, and some businesses
    • requires you to have the Porsche Charger (EVSE) with 14-50 supply cable with you in the car - or another brand EVSE with 14-50 adapter - you can't use a "raw" 240 volt plug without your own EVSE - the Porsche charger that you purchase with the car _IS_ an EVSE - you can use Porsche's or any other EVSE that you bring with you.
other "50" amp circuits are easily converted to NEMA 14-50 with $20-$30 plug conversion adapters found on amazon - NEMA 6-50, SS2-50P, and 10-50 are possible 50 amp circuits you may find in the wild.

NOTE: the JDApter/TeslaTap will NOT allow a Taycan to utilize a TeslaSupercharger.
