Hi everyone, we've just got the 4S and I have a quick question ....

When we turn the wheels at low speed i.e. turning onto the drive it appears the front wheels make a crunching noise like its slipping but sounds uncomfortable.

Can I check is this normal?

Mine has started skipping since the temperatures have dropped. I have summer tyres on for the moment.

Yes, it is known as the ackerman angle effect. Modern cars are prone for it. The skipping happens more on summer tyres in low temperature. If you have winter tyres on this time of year, the effect won't happen as much.
