Delaminating sport aero wheels

Just took my 2020 4S (7,000 miles on the odometer) into my favorite detailing shop. The owner said the car looked great, and that the PPF he installed last summer is holding up perfectly. Then he said he noticed an issue with the wheels. He pointed out some small specks that I had also noticed over the past few months—he told me that’s where the wheel coating is delaminating and will continue to get worse. He suggested contacting Porsche to get new wheels.

The wheels are 20” sport aero, and you can see the specks in the attached pics.

Anyone else seeing this on their wheels?

Your dealer may challenge and claim ‘normal wear and tear’ from grit stones etc. Worth a shot though.

Lacquer coming off the diamond turned bits of wheels which have them is common and one of the reasons I don’t like wheels like it and try to avoid them. IME the life of lacquer is poor compared to paint.

Add to that salt air if you live near the sea. Once the rot starts it's hard to stop.

I'm sure they'll offer you a special price, as a gesture of goodwill, to get them put right, which will be about 50% more than getting them done at a wheel specialist of your choice.

I battled to get the plastic caps replaced on my Macan Turbo which blistered badly after a few months - £120 - won in the end and then delighted in demanding a second set after the replacements blistered too.

Quality of these items and the actual alloys can be a mixed bag imho.

My winter wheels are Sport Aero. Something for me watch for next Spring.

it should, but it will most likely be treated as wear and tear, using too powerful a jet wash, wrong ph soap etc.

20" turbo aero: I have a very small spot on 1 wheel peeling. Porsche is honoring warranty on it.
