Hi All..
A little story. I bought my 2021 Taycan on December 31st of last year. Love the car! Not sure it is reciprocal. On Feb 10th, a bright sunny morning here in the ATL, I was driving to work. Car was running just fine, heater was on and everything seemed good but I noticed some whifts of fog intermittently on the front windshield. The only reason I thought it was odd was because the defroster wasn't on, heat was set to vents, no outside air (air set to recirculation). I pressed the recirculation button and it stopped for a few minutes and then came back again. I noticed the recirculation button was off again. It was not really interfering with my view. I was going around 60 MPG on a curvy stretch of road but I decided to turn on the defroster to see if that would help. It did not, in fact it did the opposite of what I was expecting. The windshield immediatley fogged up completely. I mean 100% Opaque and I was blind and I froze trying to figure out what to do as I didn't want to slam on my brakes or cause an accident by diving for the emergency lane. Anyway, I curbbed the left two tires and was able to make my way over to the emergency lane by looking out the passenger side window.. The windshield was still completely fogged over after I stopped. I gathered my thoughts, tried turning the AC on (it only blew cold air on my face) then turned the defroster off and back on again. It finally started clearing the windshield but the damage was done.
| called Porsche North America and let them know what had happened. They said call the dealer which I did and they set me up with an appointment. 4 weeks, two new rims and $6700 lighter, I have the vehicle back and all the Porsche Dealers says is that everything is working normally. There is no way a normal working defroster system should do that in my opinion and I am just glad I didn't end up in a worse accident.
Has anyone else had this kind of experience with the Taycan? Anyone out there that can suggest how to approach this now as I really don't feel safe and feel like this is a safety defect. I still like the car but damn, I don't want to die in it or accidently kill someone because my window completely fogs up.
Is this normal? According to Porsche it is. They are blaming it on the fact I had the car set to recirculating air and weather conditions. Sunny, Dry and about 36 degrees outside.
I am not a mechanic but I have been driving for over 40 years and even other electic vehicles. I have never had a car do this when I turned on the defroster.
Thanks for any feedback.
