Hi all. I didn't initially get the green flash (EV plate) on my registration plates, though was considering it for my next set of plates. I have a mamba green taycan and wondered if anyone has a picture of the green UK plates on their own mamba green taycan?

Why bother with it? No advantage, except I guess it may stop extinction rebellion from slashing your tyres?

I was wondering if the green matched in well with mamba.

I take it there is no benefit in having it if driving into a low emission zone (like in London)? I'd imagine the cameras will know if you have an ev through the dvla database?

No. Things like the congestion charge you have to register for the exemption.

If it was camera based monitoring, every transit van inside the M25 would have one!

I think it's a bit of weak virtue signalling. If you want green to match the paint we'll let you off on a technicality ?
I think I'll steer clear for the time being, unless it becomes mandatory.

Why did the government introduce green number plates?’
When green number plates were announced, the-then Transport Minister Rachel Maclean said they would “raise awareness” of electric cars. This awareness raising would potentially encourage people to buy an electric car ahead of the planned ban on the sales of new petrol and diesel cars through 2030 and 2035.
The Department for Transport also said green plates could “unlock a number of incentives for drivers”. Precisely what these would comprise was not stated, though it was hoped, for example, that councils might offer reduced parking rates of EVs with green plates.
These incentives have not materialised for a number of reasons, including how people fitting green plates to petrol and diesel cars could be prevented from fraudulently obtaining any benefits that might be offered, and the fact that if any incentives were to be offered for EV drivers these could already by facilitated due to the fact that what fuel a car is powered by is already recorded, with this information being obtainable to organisations via the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency already.

More UK government talk and think later!

I'm not aware of a single material benefit these green plates offer, other than in the owner/keepers mind ?

I've seen petrol/diesel shitboxes fitted with them. Proof enough to me that they offer no useful purpose.

They do use the DVLA database for the Low Emission Zone but you have to register and pay £10 annually for the congestion charge, despite them using the same cameras ?‍♂

I don’t have them on mine and I don’t think they look great on the Taycan - especially the Mamba green where it is the wrong green! It does however raise my awareness of EVs as I notice more cars around that are EVs than I would otherwise due to the green stripe on the number plate. In that sense it does achieve something as more people see EVs becoming mainstream.
