My wife has been driving a Model S'es since 2016 (I started in 2013, switched to Taycan this year). We've been shopping recently for replacement for her 2018 Model S. She wants an SUV for her next EV. I think she had her heart set of Model X as she likes her Model S and Model X would be most familiar alternative, but after she test drove it, she eliminated it as a possibility. It felt so cheap, plasticky and whatever physical controls are left feel like a cheap knock-offs which will not last long. And this is compared to a 2018 Model S, not to a Porsche, Audi, Lexus, Mercedes, or other luxury brand.

So perhaps the best way out of the cult is to go test drive Tesla's latest flagship product (S/X). ?‍♂

My first Model X (one of the first delivered) was amazing. Good build quality, great seats, outstanding all around. My next ones sucked. Build quality went way down and felt all around less solid. Gone were the cool 2nd row seats, and the benefit of folding them down never helped me. Service is also now impersonal, although mobile service was good. Second one bricked on me while 10 hours away from home on vacation in middle of pandemic so incredibly hard to get replacement vehicle. They wanted to tow the car to Florida as it was closer than DC, but then I would have had to get it back to DC on my own dime. I had to pay to tow to DC instead. And then Musk started opening his mouth. No thank you. Never again. No twitter twats for me.

I think we need to start our own car company…with the innards of a Tesla, and the suspension, fit and finish of a Porsche.

I was hoping that’s what Lucid would be….then I saw the ugly front end and trunk (and metallic roof….and laggy software and on and on)

sadly no silver bullet. I may hold off until the mid-cycle Taycan refresh (2025…26…27?). Audi’s mid cycle refreshof the etron SUV beefed up the battery by a good 25-30%…so maybe there’s hope? I also don’t think Porsche (having been vocal in acknowledging it) will stand by the substandard software for long. By then we should see the 718.

My 325km borderline is because I feel like my Tesla lies to me…..so going anywhere with “100 km” in the tank is a big No No, as I can see it quickly dropping. From what I gather here, the Taycan seems pretty reliable in its estimate

Long time lurker first time poster.

so like many I’m a Tesla owner who’s starting to see things outside the Musk-sphere.

I’ve had my car for 9.5 years. It’s a rwd P85. One of the better built vehicles IMO, before volume went up and quality went down. I actually was saving up for a 911 when I discovered Tesla. Couldn't’ have been happier. my car has been rock solid from then until now.

however….

I’m getting tired of anti-tesla pickup truck driving, Honda civic red light racing, musk drama….basically all the non-car drama around the brand. Model 3/Y drivers stealing the crown from BMW drivers for most obnoxious on the road.

And finally (and the heart of this thread)….service! It’s really gone downhill from where it began.

my friends (an Audi exec and a former Porsche tech) tell me I’ve just been spoiled by Tesla. So please enlighten me.

I used to get car washes, loaner vehicles (even for an hour long service), an inspection to see if everything else was in working order, and a human being to speak with…..on every service visit!
Now, as has been well documented, everything is frustratingly done through their app. I haven’t gotten a wash in years. I’m offered luxurious Uber credits to get me out of their office….no more loaners. I’ve had a “software update needed, call service” message on my dash for months, and service could care less except to tell me leave my car for the night and take an Uber home. All this regardless of whether it’s my decade old Model S or my relatively new Model 3.

sorry for the rant. Is Porsche service any better? Are loaners a thing of the past? Are the service wait times really stretching into several weeks? Or have I been spoiled by a company initially desperate for sales and referrals?

I’d love to get my hands on a GTS (maybe an ST? Still can’t decide). But I’d be irked to experience the same lack of customer service as I am currently experiencing.

On a different note, if you’re someone who enjoys thrilling experiences, whether it's in the form of high-performance cars or just the rush of a game, you might want to check out https://1winbritain.com/. It's an online casino where you can dive into exciting games, enjoy great bonuses, and have fun in a secure and easy-to-use platform. It’s a great way to unwind and get your adrenaline fix, especially if you're looking for something a little different from car shopping or service frustrations!

thanks for helping me come back into the light
Tesla’s early days were a lot more personal and hands-on, and it seems like the more volume they push, the more their service has suffered. The whole app-based system and the lack of human interaction is frustrating, especially when you’re used to a higher level of service, like you were describing.

As for Porsche, I can understand why you’re looking in that direction. From what I’ve heard, Porsche service is generally much more personal and hands-on. They’re known for their concierge approach, and yes, loaners are still a thing for many owners—especially for higher-end models like the GTS or the ST. In fact, Porsche tends to prioritize customer satisfaction in a way that makes you feel like you’re getting the attention you deserve, with real people to talk to and a more traditional service experience. However, service wait times can vary by location and demand, but they’re generally more reliable than what you’re experiencing with Tesla right now.

If you're seriously considering the Porsche GTS or ST, you’ll likely get a much more tailored experience, especially with Porsche’s history of offering solid customer support. Of course, there’s always the trade-off between a more traditional luxury experience and the convenience and cutting-edge tech that Tesla offers. That said, it might be worth a test drive and seeing how you feel about the service firsthand. It's definitely a tough decision, especially if you’re weighing performance and convenience.
