They have removed this functionality. I drove a 2025 and the programmable button DOES NOT support a 3 function On/Auto/Off that the fixed button available on J1.1 supported. Long press is not supported by the programmable button.
That’s really poor imho, I use the regen mode button on my j1 all the time, flipping between all 3 modes - I don’t like having to revert to brake pedal when I want some gentle speed control when rolling down a hill, for example.

I just picked up my 2025 RWD, coming from 10 years of 2 different Tesla Model S. I'm interested in the recuperation, since I've been used to the strong regenerative braking of the Tesla. I have the dashboard icon with the reverse arrow, and the steering wheel button is set to control recuperation. But there is no option for recuperation in the Drive settings, and pushing the steering wheel button does nothing. Can anyone help me with an explanation for the option being missing?
Keep in mind that this relates to overrun recuperation (throttle lift off) and not braking recuperation (via brakes only).

In my experience on Taycan J1.1 I rarely use overrun unless I'm feeling brave on twisty country roads where it becomes an enjoyable experience. Depending on drive mode the overrun has differing levels of "engine braking".

Braking recuperation adds most back to the battery (even then not spectacular levels of energy / range added back to the battery) and overrun not really material in normal driving situations.
