You doing the wolfpen meetup on the 14th? I'm just across the Chattahoochee and hoping to make it. Would enjoy a chance to pick your brain about taking a Taycan on the mountain tours.
Yes, I'll be there! First PCA event I'll have managed to make this year. I live in Roswell so it's especially convenient. See you there.

Yes and yes. Member of PCA national staff (I run the Street Survival program for PCA) and drove the Taycan to Parade in Birmingham last year. PCA is definitely catching up to Taycan and recently appointed their first national EV person whose job is to help the national club figure out how to incorporate EVs into the programs. Late start but better than no start.
Thanks for responding. I am looking into the idea of putting an EV event together for my region (Chicago - Zone 13). I am a longtime (since 1980) Porsche ICE member and in the past have partcipated in numerous events. In light of my plans ,do you think you could connect me to the National EV person you mentioned? I would love to see what their initial thoughts were. Let me know and I am Tony by the way.

Yes and No.

Back in the late 80's, I had a 944 and one of the Porsche dealerships told me it wasn't a real Porsche and the PCA was for the 911 only (Porsche dealership salesman told me this). My co-worker had a 914 and he was told his car wasn't a real Porsche either. Joined when I got the cross turismo, but have not attended any events..

that is a good start, finally, but while the main body of PCNA maybe making an effort to bring taycan owners into the group PCNA cannot and maybe should not attempt to change the gear/gas head culture of the local groups. EV owners do not share any commonalities with the old guard of the club. I bet the panamera owners felt the same when the first ones came out.

Hi Tony - go to https://www.pca.org/connect/national-committee-chairs and David Bankston is the contact. You have to sign in to the site to be able to send him a mail. I think he's based in FL.

While there may be groups where that is the vibe, it's certainly not the intent. The PCA motto of "it's the people" is really something that at least at a national level we try to be true. I think if you look at the programs offered around PCA, it tries to offer programming to everyone in the Porsche fold admittedly doing a better job with some than others. No one is trying to "convert" anyone but rather to make space for everyone.

That sucks and is just ignorant. I had similar misgivings before attending my first events but was pleasantly surprised once I did. What I found were a bunch of car nerds (and I mean that in a very positive way). I'm on my third 911 but also own a 924 and a Taycan (obviously). I tremendously regret selling my 951 as it was such a blast to drive.

being cool to people driving a porsche isn't the locals intent, it is human nature. the EV is not part of the marque's history or DNA. I am not claiming that people were anything less than cordial but they were not exactly overly inclusive. I as a taycan owner brought nothing to their world of rear engine air cooled car club.
