Porsche Connect Services after 3 years

It auto-renews, but not for free. £269 p.a. I know because mine got messed up somehow and caused a lot of problems

Some confusion here I think. BigBob and I are talking about the Car Security Package (what Raphie called the alarm tracker) which is separate from the general Porsche Connect package I believe. The general Porsche Connect package I do get for free

Rereading Raphie's post I think I've misunderstood anyway and he's not saying he gets the alarm tracker for free, it's just that is another cost on top of the cost of renewing Porsche Connect after three years

To make sure I understand it well:

If you don't take "Porsche Charging Service", you don't get the Porsche charging card and you do not get the ionity discount.
But I assume you can still register for plug&charge with other provider ? I know this is possible with for example FastNed. So you don't need to loose the plug&charge feature. Right ?

What are you loosing if you don't take "Porsche Connect". Do you also lose remote AC control ? And remote charging activation ? And also no updates the chargers in the car ?
That would mean you can't do preheating for new chargers. Because you don't get updates of the charger lists. Right ?
Or do they come with regular OTA updates ?

So, reading a bit more into the Taycan Connect Services, it seems quite expensive to maintain the first 36 month user experience
basically you’ll have 3 services:
- Porsche Connect Care - runs 10Y - basic app + OTE updates
- Porsche Charging Service - runs 1Y for €179,00 - Porsche RFID card + tariffs + myporsche reports
- Porsche Connect - runs for 1Y €179,00 Navigation updates, smart charging planner - traffic info - search - voice control, Apple Music app / Spotify App
- and if your insurance requires alarm tracker following then another €299 /y for the car security package

this means after 36 months a whopping €657 a year to maintain the full user experience and not turn your Taycan into a crippled dumb car.
if you don’t mind losing the reporting and are not in the Porsche charging ecosystem, you can lose the charging service. But the connect is pretty essential, so is the tracker alarm in order to get the car insured. (Chubs and Centraal Beheer are the only 2 insurers wanting to insure the car in NL, as all others reject cars above 127k€)

that’s a €2.5k yearly cost to keep the party going.

Where did you find the details about the Connect and Charging service costs?

The Charging service only benefit as I have seen it, is the reduced Ionity prices. All other networks work out very expensive with their time based formula. Most of the other stations only charge a flat kWh price and NO time element. So they work out much cheaper if you have a cold battery or the charger only delivers reduced power level. In all I find the Porsche Charging service a complete mess expensive. She’ll does not work on it, Total normally does not work with it.etc.

Only thing really necessary will be the Porsche connect for me.

Charging in Portugal doesn't make sense with the Porsche card (only ionity for the first 3 years... MAYBE).

The PTVS+ depends if insurance requires it but as the car gets older, there will be less requirements in that area.

I turned off tracking last year as it was increased to £229 and was not required for insurance, it’s up to £269 this year so I’m not going to activate it still. If they charged a reasonable price over the cost of the sim for the service like £15 per month then maybe.

Can anyone confirm that the free connect 10 year shows where the vehicle location is on a map or do you need the £269 Porsche connect service?

Tracking back to this, my 3 year free Connect and Charging Service expired yesterday. After a good deal of thought (and despite the fact that I do a large proportion of charging away from home) I just can’t see the ongoing value in the services. The new charging service options are just downright uncompetitive. When compared to Ionity Passport Power I’d need something like 500 kWh of energy a month to match the Porsche‘s much higher monthly subscription. Whilst I know it offers access to other providers, I really use IONITY almost exclusively.

With regard to connect, for £269 per annum, I can see no particular feature it offers that can’t be accessed elsewhere for free, or as part of an existing subscription. I’d say I’d miss the NAV feature offering number of free chargers but, in truth, that seems to have been based on speculation at best for a large proportion of the time. Oh, and I can’t preheat the car from the house.

A year in the “wild” to come then!

Me too .. extended my warranty for a year and the breakdown cover too but not the connect..

Last September, I exteneded warranty for another 3 years, and I also kept connect.

Otoh, i;m thinking to cancel charging since it looks that’s better to subscribe with Ionity. It’s less expensive and you get support if needed.
when i had problems with Porsche card and app, they (Ionity) just said that i need to contact card issuer …

These services all come with a cost to the manufacturer. So you pay one way or another.

Do they cost £200+ per car per year? I imagine not, but then when has Porsche ever done anything without a profit being applied? I also suspect that Porsche aren't being as efficient as they could be with their architecture, looking at how poor their capability is on system updates etc.

I believe the services are now included "free" for 10yrs on new cars, Porsche clearly realising they need to be offering them with the car for their own benefit (ARB6/7/etc anyone) as the owners'. How much did list prices go up at the time? A couple of k?
