I wonder where is the 12v feed for amp. In trunk you mean its not going directly to battery with wires ??? They just tap in to some sort of power fuse??

Taycan 4S Subwoofer Upgrade (Bose from Factory)

I decided that the bass provided by the Bose system wasn't sufficient. I contacted a local shop and booked an appointment for mid-September. On the morning of the appointment, the shop informed me that they didn't have the components I requested (JL Audio 6" box x 2, JL Audio 500W amp).

I went to the shop, and after exploring other options, the technician started to disassemble the car. However, after 2 hours, they mentioned they couldn't find a suitable location for a 12V power source and were hesitant to connect it to the 12V battery. After a few more hours, I left the shop without any upgrades.

I then called around and found another shop willing to perform the installation.

The new setup included 2x Gladen SQX08 subwoofers in a custom MDF box, a Gladen RC600.1 amplifier, and a Mosconi Atomo 4 to 6 DSP (not necessary, but I wanted to adjust the factory sound curve for the sub). Power was sourced from the power distribution unit at the back of the car.

This upgrade transformed the car's bass quality, and I wish the previous owner had opted for the Burmester system. I'm extremely satisfied and recommend this modification to anyone feeling that the Bose system lacks bass.

hey I know this is an old thread, but can you let me know where the company pulled 12v power from for your amp?

Curious about the same question.

There is a 12v power in the trunk, but a lot of times those are on a smaller fuse.

I have a 10” JL audio power wedge from my Mach E that won’t take up much trunk space but want to see how to wire it. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-kOV8p...9POCsW_DWKqNvlw4QpuNJO1RvPHnQ6YhoCAKAQAvD_BwE

Would be nice to not have to run all the way to the 12v battery.

Did some research and it’s unlikely the trunk 12v has thick enough wiring or a large enough fuse to handle an amp.

You’ll probably have to run straight to the 12v battery.

Of course the next question will be where to poke through the firewall.

I get the feeling the common answer to the question of “how do I install _____?” on the Porsche forum is:

Write a check. 😜

Did this upgrade today. I didn't want to remove the left and right interior panels for fear of breaking clips.. I man handled the enclosure and flipped it 180 degree and installed the Rockford Fosgate P3SD4-8. The picture below shows the box flipped 90 degree.. but It was impossible to mount the new speaker this way, so I flipped it another 90 degrees. You have to trim the mounting surface and remove 2 tabs (red arrow) inside the enclosure. The new driver does indeed hit a little deeper, and it sounds more controlled. It does seem a bit louder.. but not as loud or hard hitting as my Jeep with dual 10's JL and a dedicated 500 watt JL amp ;) Look at that tiny Bose magnet. I dont think a dedicated aftermarket amp would make the 8" sub much louder. so for now I'm happy.

I just did this as well.

Definitely a little louder and cleaner/more full.

A few notes-

I filled the box with fiber fill. Makes the box act like a larger box and should sound better.

Even though the pictures don’t show it, the subwoofer is downward firing and ported. When you reinstall it, the sub faces the floor.

I removed the entire sub box from the car. Made it easier to work on. You have to remove a lot of trim to get to it but isn’t that difficult. Trim removal instructions video can be seen on the MAPev website. https://www.mapev.net/taycan-4s-pb-plus/

You have to use a razor knife to remove some of the little nubs around where the speaker sits so it’ll fit.

I couldn’t figure out any configuration where you could screw in all 6 screws to the new subwoofer so I only used 4.

All in all, definitely a decent upgrade for the money. I had thought about installing a 10” powered JL Audio sub from my last car, but honestly this may sound good enough. You can definitely feel the bass when you turn up the volume more than the Bose sub.

The JL would easily overpower the rest of the speakers but it may not be needed.

So where did you get 12v power from?

Thanks for the tip, SK dropped one in to replace my Burmester one. This setup needed a DSP in the chain to modify the OEM tuning of the sub.

Hi guys,

Does anybody know how deep the Bose subwoofer enclosure is?

I have an 8" Alpine Type R subwoofer sitting in the garage unused and I might try this in the enclosure if it will fit. It has a 115mm mounting depth as per the diagram below.

I also have an Audiocontrol ACM 1.300 micro mono amplifier (which will do a genuine 300w RMS into 2ohm) which I could use to feed the sub a bit more power from the factory signal whilst keeping everything nice and compact/discreet.

Cheers
