Just wondering if any UK Taycan owners have had a tracker installed with/without you knowing?

I found out by chance today (speaking to an employee of JBR Capital who are financing the car) that there was a slight delay to collection as they had to wait for the "installation of a tracker". Apparently it is required by them, and this is coordinated between themselves and the Porsche dealership prior to collection.

I haven't been able to reach my Porsche sales rep yet, but am wondering:

1. What kind of tracker exactly is installed? Where is it installed? - I presume it has to be properly hidden or any decent car thief would simply remove it?

2. If you had one installed as a requirement of financing - when were you informed of this, and was your consent sought?

3. Did Porsche get your consent as well? It just seems alarming that Porsche would add something to the car (and as I understand it the tracker is installed by a third party company, and not the dealer!) without your explicit consent?

Is this a lease option or a purchase/finance situation where this is the case? I can't imagine this would be permitted by GDPR in a situation where you own/finance the vehicle without you being notified. If it's a lease, I guess they could probably have told the dealer and opted to not tell the end leasee. That's pretty crazy.

It's a standard Hire Purchase agreement.

I've just found the legal clause in the finance agreement, I guess I should have read the fine print and clauses:

Tracker: We reserve the right to put a tracker on the vehicle prior to delivery to you. We do this for the
purposes of contract compliance and of crime prevenƟon, either by you or by a thirdparty. This tracker will
remain acƟve for the whole duraƟon of our contract, and it will be turned off once that the agreement with us
has been terminated and all amounts due under the agreement have been seƩled. You authorise us to receive
vehicle locaƟon data from the manufacturer of the vehicle. We will not share the locaƟon of the vehicle at any
Ɵme, unless compelled to do so by law or to assist in the recovery of a vehicle.

I'm personally fine with the tracker, my point is more of being informed of it, and not hiding it in a tiny clause of a long agreement.

I'm glad it was at least stipulated and made apparent in the contract. I agree that it would have been upsetting if this were something undisclosed. Glad you figured it out. Sounds like overall they state they won't share or use the information unless legally required. That plus really good privacy laws in the UK/EU seems like this is mostly innocuous.
