Hi everyone,

I am a newbie who has silently been following for a long time gaining (stealing!) insight and advice.

I have just placed an order for a CT Turbo and the dealer is putting pressure to have it locked by Friday morning for a supposedly October build. This is my first Porsche and first EV so it is quite a change, but I am very excited.

I think I am 95% there on the spec thanks to many people’s different posts on this forum previously (thank you all!).

http://www.porsche-code.com/PN3NVRI4

Anything I am missing or should avoid?

The only things I am still struggling with are;

Insulated laminated privacy glass…? I only want it because I’m concerned of the road noise created by the 21” alloys and want a really quiet cabin, but then I’m also concerned about the colour reportedly looking brown from the outside? The dealer says in his opinion it doesn’t make much difference to the sound. Thoughts please? Does it make the pano roof any more insulated?

I didn’t have the 22kw charger on my list, but my dealer was absolutely adamant that this will affect future value and when I still said I wasn’t convinced, they passed me over to a colleague who said exactly the same. Either they are on commission for specing this item or they really do believe it is necessary.

I am already over budget but want to get the spec right. Other things I have gone back and forth on was sports chromo vs compass and having that in White. Still considering the crayon seat belts as well.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome and that's a lovely spec! If they are offering a Oct build rip their arm off, when I was looking I couldn't get a turbo this year.

I don't see how the 22kw is 'future proofing' the car. Typical homes are AC and going to be 7kw or 11kw which will fully charge your car overnight so the need for 22kw I'm not sure on. When you're out chances are you'll be looking to use a fast charger so DC which is already geared for the 150kw+. So the only scenario this 22kw options fills is when your out and only can find a AC charger, even then the time it would take to charge would not be nice. My 2 cents but save your cash.

I had the same concerns about the insulated glass but didn't end up spec'ing it, and having the car a couple of weeks now don't regret it. Cabin is very quiet (I have the pan roof optioned) so don't know what else the insulated glass could provide. But this is a personal option and you should call around and see if you can find cars with and without and take a test drive.

Me personally am not a fan of the silver window surrounds and inlays especially seeing them in the flesh, I would consider swapping to black gloss as there are already so many colours going on (with the plastic wheel arches).

One thing I wish I did spec was the ceramic breaks. I have a 4S and the thing shifts but doesn't have the breaks to match and with the Turbo it will only be worse!

Also the Adaptive cruise is a good option, great for traffic. It's a function that will future proof the car as you can add other features (Innodrive, ALK) later on if you have it installed.

I presume you know that the Dealer does not determine the Freeze date. If they gave you a real Allocation all of the dates are already set by Porsche.

That's interesting. I've had PCCB's on a few cars and love them, however in gripping a last-moment decision, I chose the surface-coated brakes (PSCB's) on my CT Turbo (inbound ETA October).

My reasoning: On the GT Car side, it's widely agreed PCCB's and steel brakes perform similarly. PCCB's might fade a bit less in a track setting, but otherwise, each stops the car confidently. So, on a daily driver... I'm good with 'close enough'. Without a performance benefit, it comes down to dust-free wheels (amazing!!) and aesthetics. They're stating the surface coated rotors feature 90% less brake dust vs. standard brakes, more similar performance. One subjective benefit, the aesthetics of the PCCB's are awesome! (but maybe less impactful on the Taycan? not sure, depends on the wheels I think)

In the end, you must square the PCCB upcharge (and the unlikely risk of having to shell out for the famously expensive replacement parts!) with all that. Ultimately, I couldn't rationalize it on this car and felt the surface-coated option deserved a chance. I hope I don't regret it.

Hi,

22kW is in the minority and if it were so important Porsche UK would insist on making it standard for UK. Reports on this forum point to its unreliability also. Unless you have a 3 phase electrical supply at home you will never get the benefit. When using public chargers you will track down DC chargers before AC ones. Standard home charging at 7.4kW is perfect for overnight top ups and you always have 11kW for public use if you need to (I have never needed).

Offroad design pack - personal choice but I would remove - unnecessary plastic on top of plastic. Inserts should be gloss black IMHO and not standard silver, Vesuvius or any other colour - looks odd and spoils the rear diffuser of the car.

Roof rails - gloss black look good against the black pano roof - 'melt away' rather than overtly visible. Silver goes well with the window surrounds however.

Laminated glass - marmite decision time - personally I think it looks odd and clearly visible on front window screens. The car is remarkably quiet - I have 20" but drove the 4S CT with 21" and I honestly couldn't discern a difference in either ride or road noise. Standard privacy for sure but jury's out on the laminated. It will make a difference (thicker glass / 2-layers) but probably more expensive to replace.

HUD - I found it annoying (it can be switched off .... so what's the point) and spoils the view IMHO. Mind that if using polarising sunglasses you may not be able to see the projection on the screen.

Illuminated sill guards - I don't see the point (sorry) - black aluminium is the correct colour choice.

Passenger display - IMHO pointless and a waste of money.

RAS & PSP - yes, great choice.

Colour coded door mirrors.

Seat belts in crayon.

Comfort access (useful and car fires up automatically when you close the driver's door)

PMC+ (std) vs PMCC - harks back to the 22kW option and what you have available at home. If you do have / plan on 3-phase to get 11kW to 22kW then to take advantage you would need an EVSE that can manage that amount of juice. PMCC will do this. There are other 3rd party options (cheaper / more expensive) but just highlighting.

If you are over budget, remove offroad package. It's just a bunch of (expensive) plastic.

Thank you Dragcity. I am also struggling to see the need of the 22kw and wouldn’t bother if it wasn’t for the insistence of the dealers. They recon many people wanting EV in cities will move over the 3 phase over the next 3 years?? Who knows!

If you think the car is quiet enough, I will pass on the insulated glass.

You have really made me doubt about the silver surround and roof rails. I really like the look on the configurator of them and with the silver off road pack bit so will need to decide.

Regarding the brakes. The surface-coated brakes (PSCB's) are already an upgrade to anything I have had previously so I can’t justify the ceramics!

Thanks again for your input!

I though comfort access was just keyless opening.

Interesting. They have just told me they need to confirm my final spec (no further changes) on Friday. I am taking over their demonstrator allocation build slot of October. where can I find out confirmation of the exact dates?

Keyless opening, foot gesture for the trunk and hand gesture for the frunk PLUS seat, AC, PCM and in car comfort (steering column, mirrors) where associated hardware is installed.

Have a look at this post , this was a demo in Nottingham not long ago that had a similar colour combo. Check if they still have it and pop down if you can.

You want to get this part right as it will be a nightmare to change later on.

Thanks. Don't you think the silver Off road Kit with the silver surrounds and silver roof bar would all compliment each other nicely with Gentian Blue? (i know the one below from SwissBob has black bars but from the front i love this look)

Thanks for all your input and help.

I have...
  • Added ACC,
  • Removed the Insulated glass
  • Removed the 22kw
  • Changed to black surrounds around the windows and black glass model designation.
