Question as many seems to have had it done - I’ve always tinted my front windows, usually between 20-35%.

When I asked my SA if they’d do it for me, he said no and not to do it as “Porsche are very touchy with aftermarket mods for warranty purposes including tinting”

Is it BS and did any of you experience issues when bringing the car in for warranty work while tinted?

I’ve never heard of that. Sounds ridiculous. I’ve had all of my Porche’s tinted. Some by the dealer some not. Never had issues with warranty.

Just ask a quality local tint shop to do your window Tinting, you have more control over what kind of tint you want to pay for and the darkness level.

If you are doubting between a model X and a Taycan, I can maybe comment because I have an Tesla model X and I ordered a Taycan.

-About the Bose audio system: The storage space under the trunk floor in the Taycan is twice as big, If you take the base radio instead of the Bose sound system. If you intent to use travel with kids, I assume the extra trunk space will be very welcome.

-The Taycan is spacious enough as a family car with two kids. But it certainly way too small for 3 kids.
Maybe I should not say it on a Taycan forum but if you cannot wait for the model X delivery, I would really consider buying a second hand model X. Way more practical if you have 3 children. It is really 2 times the size of a Taycan. You can almost fit a Taycan in the trunk of a model X, :)
The model X is not a sports car at all, but it is definitely also sporty to drive for an suv.

-To make the middle seat more usable, take the glass roof. The middle seat is a bit higher than the two other seats, so you are more likely to hit the ceiling.

-If you consider using a roof box, take into account that it drains the battery very very fast. Don't underestimate it. Especially at high speeds. I regularly put my bike on the tow bar of my tesla and drive at ±150km/h: It reduce the range with more than 30% !

Thanks - that’s reassuring. The only reason I can see for them to push this policy is for people to spec privacy glass, which I have in any cases… I would love to see them trying to wriggle out of replacing - say a battery pack! - because I tinted my front glass ?

Looks great at 20% especially on Volcano! I’ve wrapped my current car and did the tinting there too so will ask them indeed. I went lighter with the Range at 35% as I found the 20% sometimes tricky in tiny Parisian underground car parks and at night, but I do prefer the look of it.

On your pics it looks like the tiny 3rd back window is darker/more black than the rest. Is it factory tinted + film?

Thanks for the input - always good to get real life experience!
One of the neighbours has an X P90D, and coerced me into test driving with Tesla a 100D. I had the GL at the time and it didn’t feel like the boot was big at all but I guess vs. the CT it’s still bigger, although you can’t fit a roof box on the X so all in all… I’d only need more than the CT 500ish liters (F+R) maybe twice a year.

On audio system impact on the loading space I’ll try and see that in person but my local dealer didn’t have any Taycan without a Bose when I was there (I did ask to listen to the standard one…).

I did spec the pan roof for extra light / headroom indeed, and I guess my son is just at the right height not to be too uncomfortable as he can do without a booster (raised bench) and is about 130cm so at least another 6-7 years before he’ll be too tall ?

I didn’t foresee the battery drop - thanks for flagging. I plan to mostly rely on robust route planning with Ionity / Instavolt rapid DCs for longer journeys so hopefully still OK. For instance I’m about 165mi away from the Channel Tunnel, so reaching that with 20% left would be great, although I usually coast at about 85-90mph so might need to drop to 75!

I have come across this a few times over the years, different dealerships. Tesla doesn't do tint either btw (not a dealership though, online ordering only, if not available online it cannot be added).

The reasoning about warranty is not totally crazy. It is motivated by the fact that the dealership doesn't want to warranty the tint, or be the intermediary for any 3rd party warranties. They see it as not enough profit to offset the headaches and/or customers associating bad experience with the dealership (imagine your tinted is having bubbles, peeling, or discolored, or even scratches, and you wanting the dealer to take care of it or even facilitate the repairs, provide you loaner cars during repair/re-tint, none of which they make any money on).

Similar reason why almost every manufacturer certified pre-owned vehicles get their tint and other 3rd party add-ons stripped as part of the CPO prep.

I understood the OP’s question to about general warranty claims (not tint) being denied because of a tint. OP can correct me if I’m wrong.

I understand your reply to be about the warranty on the actual tint itself. You can correct if I’m wrong.

Yep I believe the way the dealer told me not to do it when I said I’d go to a wrap shop should they not offer the service was because it could invalidate general warranty claims!
I understood the risk to get claims rejected when I was remapping my ICE cars in the past as it pushes several parts beyond OEM spec, but tinting or adding 15mm spacers…. Feels a bit like they’re happy for you to spend your money on their cars but then don’t want you to act like you own them! Reminds me of Nissan who voided GT-R warranties in the early days if they were launched/tracked!

A guy who owns a remap company back in France bought a new 540C to mod it and track it. Serviced it consequently very frequently with McLaren but all issues were covered under warranty and the head tech at his dealership even gave him some advice on the best tuning setup!
He went on and got a 600LT soon after… it just builds customer trust to get this kind of experience!

Wow. In the USA we have a law which prohibits things like voiding warranty due to unrelated modification (or even non-brand parts). So, tint could not void your suspension warranty, but wheel spacers might if they can prove the wheels with spacers changes the loading on the suspension in a way counter-indicated in the manual or warranty text. Now, the question for me would be is the dealer saying Porsche will void the warranty, or are they refusing service because of their own policy. If the latter, report them to Porsche, that they refuse to service Porsche cars. If it's Porsche which is voiding the warranty (which I doubt), see if what consumer rights you have similar to the above law, then report Porsche.

TBH I’m sure they wouldn’t push back too hard on a tint, I might just disregard their advice and ignore them. He also claimed that “not a single customer here did it” which I don’t really believe as it’s not uncommon (while theoretically prohibited, it’s not really enforced, like plate spacing and minor cosmetic things like that).

I’ve realised that similarly priced Porsche such as the Panamera have full leather as standard. Find it a bit unfair that the Taycan has to make do with partial leather. I keep going back to either Red or Crayon dual tone leather upgrade from my current standard slate grey but can’t quite comprehend the £3k premium, having already deviated from my original spec for things like Crayon paint, crests, Bose or 150kW booster…

If I blow a fuse and go for extended leather - crayon/black or Bordeaux/black?

I think I like white leather more but I have to say dark red looks brilliant with crayon paint and red calipers too…

Also to illustrate the vast rear cabin, perfectly suited for a large family:

Nah he’ll be fine he’ll be getting a wonderful memory foam coccyx cushion from Amazon ?

He’s a big car fan so he keeps saying he’s alright on the middle seat so I could pull the trigger on the CT!

Right - new year, new extra ticked  I am feeling drawn into the full leather upgrade...

Interestingly, my wife's favourites are 1) Blackberry + Neodyme accents / 2) Bordeaux with base black accents / 3) Crayon with Neodyme so reverse order vs. my preference.
Probably down to the fact that a white smooth leather is tricky for a family car with my tendency to be very OCD with any sort of stain/mark/smear/crumb/dust/particule of any sort... Had white nappa in the X5 and it was a LOT of maintenance.

I think blackberry is awesome in some lights, too much in others, so need to see IRL. Also unsure it works with red callipers.

Bordeaux is amazing, good blend of black, and it compliments the red brakes / crayon paint very well. Just a bit disappointed that Neodyme doesn't work with it as I liked it as a point of difference, especially with the compass/sport chrono face.

Will need to try and pop around the dealership to make sure I get it right - really don't want to mess up the choice of the priciest extra on my list!

I've trawled Google for pics but it changes so much depending on light, cameras etc... if anyone has crayon + one of those leathers feel free to post here!

Order went in today - current spec as follows! I almost went for Turbo or Turbo S with much less extras to add but in the end it‘s just a bit unreasonable as 4S performance is really fair already

- CT 4S in Crayon
- Black/Crayon 2 tone leather
- Offroad pack in black
- Roof rails in black
- Pan roof
- Folding mirrors
- Side trims in black
- Model designation in black high gloss
- Model designation on doors in black
- Electric sport sound
- Sport chrono with compass
- 21in CT design wheels
- Tyre sealing and air compressor
- Wheel centres in full colour
- Windscreen top tint
- Privacy glass
- 4+1 seats
- Ambient lighting
- Heated GT wheel in leather
- Neodyme accents
- Porsche crests in the front
- Sills in black aluminium
- BOSE
- Electric charging covers
- 150kW on-board booster

The only thing I’m still debating is Bordeaux interior but I am worried to “get tired” of it and it feels less airy than crayon… It also feels more special so will see if I see one IRL at the dealer to compare!
