I originally had tried to order a set of the Nokian Hakkapeliita 10 EV Silent-Studded tires about 3-months ago in the US and ran into a problem of sourcing the rear tire sizes. This put me on a journey to try and convince Nokian that there was a US market and to show demand to produce and ship the 285/40/r20 to the States. This was done through a group-buy ( https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...tudded-non-studded-and-hakkapeliitta-r3.6920/ ) which I started to question my effectiveness by using the power of numbers to our advantage. However, it worked and we soon found out they indeed did create a production run for us and expected this to be delivered the first of second week in December.

Well, the production when on as scheduled and we saw the tires ship from the factory. However, at that point, we lost all tracking and did not know where they were going to land, or if they would even make it through customs and/or be stuck off-shore or on a dock, or have drivers to transfer them with the supply chain issues that we are all experiencing. It was just about Christmas and I was thinking of purchasing another set, from a different brand, as I only had the summer tires and needed to drive, if it snowed. On December 28th, I was notified that we had visibility on where they were shipped to and off-loaded in the U.S. However, the problem was there were only enough for 12 cars in the entire country. I posted and helped some of our members get these and as of this morning, only 6-rear tires remain in the country and that means only 3 more Taycan's can get these.

I got them installed on Jan 3. 2022 and wanted to give a quick review. I will update this thread with a full-review, once I get the next snow fall and/or noreaster or ice storm. I am actually looking forward to taking it out in the bad weather.

Here is a front-set, with a front-side view of the 245/45/r20:
Porsche Taycan New Winter Studded Tires Installed - Initial Review (US) Studded front_driver Taycan Hak10EV

Features:
Grip: The studs are 'dual-studded' technology, that is designed to give forward/braking grip in the middle and then are placed in a different configuration on the sides for lateral/turning grip. These are mounted on a tire that is designed for not only winter, but for EV's in particular with the increased torque and weight. The studs also retract on hard surfaces to allow the tire to grip vs. being on metal.
Sound: There are three noise reducing aspects to this tire; the first is the studs themselves, that retract on surfaces harder than ice on hard pavement/concrete that is designed for more traction (as above) and reduced noise. The second, is a foam insert inside the tire, that is designed to reduce the resonance in the tire and absorb the sound of the studs. The last is the compound of the tire that is designed to absorb sound and not transfer it into the wheel and into the cabin.
Originally, when I purchased these I was skeptical on how much was a gimmick and how much was actually functional features.

Price:
These cost $1,710.00 USD purchased, balanced and installed on the vehicle. Each wheel, front and rear were a different price and this is not a cheep pair of shoes. However, I expect to get at least 3, perhaps 4 winters out of these and will be the exact time that I will be purchasing my next vehicle (perhaps the next version of the Taycan).

Initial Review on dry pavement:
Sound: I am sure this is the first question. Below 15-20mph you can hear a little bit of the clinking of the studs with the radio off. However, with the radio on a normal to low volume, this almost disappears. Above 20mph, I expected the noise to increase, as they have done so with my past winter-only tires (Michelin Ice Xi3 and Bridgestone Blizzak), however I got just the opposite. Once you hit 20mph, all clinking is gone, even with the radio off. I was shocked and at highway speeds, I would wager to say these are more quiet than any winter tire I have owned. I was truly amazed and shocked that the features actually became benefits that worked! I am now a believer and perhaps even becoming a fan-boy, which I am not afraid to admit at this point as this is something that I can stand behind and feel confident that others will have a similar reaction. Overall, the sound is QUIET and the noise level is extremely low!

Feel/drive-ability: I will say, I am coming from summer tires and the difference may be more noticeable than those coming from all-seasons. That said, there is more squishy feeling to the tire and the steering wheel has just a fraction more play, before you feel the transfer to the wheel. On straight lines, it likes to track straight and not deviate from where the wheel is set vs. my summer tires, that seemed to allow the wheel to move based on the pitch/contour of the road. All in all, it is a pleasant ride and just not as tight as the summer tires, which I guess is to be expected.

Efficiency: I can expect that this will be decreased. The rolling resistance is slightly noticeable when you take the gas off, but it still does roll quite a bit more than I expected. I think this is to be expected with the studs and deeper tread vs. my summer tires.

Review in the Snow:
Had some good snow the other week and these tires inspire confidence! During the day, the snow was medium and I swear, this turns the Taycan into a snowmobile! Honestly, with the traction control, I could get the back to break a little in sport+, but it quickly corrected and I think I was even able to take some corners as fast as dry pavement.
Lateral control was amazing and it really grips into the corners and bites with the weight distribution locking it in.
I have not felt more safe in the 3-4" of snow that was on the ground before the plows came out. I have no complaints on traction or performance.

Review on icy roads:
After the last snow, the temp really dropped and you could see all of the road reflecting with ice. Personally, I could not tell that there was ice on the road while driving. Excellent performance equal to how it performs with snow.
The only complaint I have is how slow other cars were going. I seemed to always be stuck behind an SUV, Jeep, etc. that was going 15mph below the speed limit. I can say, I don't think that I will ever go back to 'winter' or 'all-season' tires. The level of upgrade by having the studs are well worth it and with these specifically, I feel that I don't have to compromise on noise or dry road feel.

Overall Review and 'would I purchase again' test:
After having these on in the dry, snow, ice, I have no regrets. The confidence and agility that this provides in all winter conditions is something that I don't want to lose. Would I buy again.... you bet!

Review in the Snow:
-to be updated on first snow-fall

Review on icy roads:
-to be updated on first icy conditions

Overall Review and 'would I purchase again' test:
-to be updated when tested in all conditions and then again at the end of the season. Thus far on dry, I am ecstatic on the sound component and handling thus far for a winter-only tire.

Are you sure about those tire sizes next to your pictures?

Nice to see real winter tires there too!

I was planning to have the same set but my dealer was a bit too fast and selected Nokian R3's. However after few thousand km's I've started to like them very much!

With the Turbo Aero rim's I'm not too happy. As they are mostly closed the air flow through them is restricted (well - that's the point..) causing a lot of snow piling inside the rim.

All fine before a block of it goes out and makes the wheel vibrate like Willys MB after staying on it's wheels for the last 6 months of winter ..

Plan is to use Turbo Aero's on summer tires and find more open rims for the R3's.

This is helpful, I was wondering about that exact issue. I guess now I know :)

I have the turbo aero wheels and have not had that problem as of yet. However, if our friend from Finland is any indication, I may be in trouble.
I would have preferred the Turbo Aero S wheels, that have a little more opening, but I think those only became available with the CT?

Well.. if you stay on larger roads without loose snow you are mostly doing well. However we have a lot of smaller gravel roads here (more interesting ones..) with varying amount of loose stuff. The result you can see in the profile photo here. This happens after some 5-10 km (spirited) driving.

you mentioned having three tire sets left - are any still available? i'm scrambling to find some winter tires for this beast. I was told my car was equipped with all seasons but they're summer tires. I'd rather swap summer/winter than summer/all-season. i was going to buy a new set of wheels so size doens't really matter - wait i lied. PSCB - so 19" wont't work - but 20/21 would... thanks

What tires do you guys recommend for 22” wheels on a Taycan 4s
Front wheel 22 x 9
Rear wheel 22 x 10.5
I was thinking about going 35 series for the front because I want some extra tire for the pot holes
What do you think of these tires below, do you think it will rub?
Front: 275/35R22 or 265/35R22
Rear: 305/30R22
