Wow, that’s painful to read let alone to experience :)

Here, we have vat 21% regardless of the emissions. Then there is annual tax based on co2. For Taycan that was 0. For base 911 it will be roughly 200€/year. Insurance was actually cheaper for 911 comparing to Taycan (which was a nice surprise).
Annual road tax for EV here is €120. For 911 (190g CO2/km) its ... wait for it .... €2350/year. There are between 3 and 5 911's sold in Ireland yearly.

It’s zero for EV here, don’t know how much it would be for 911.

In my country (CH) and municipality, taxes do what it says on the tin - they are not luxury taxes hidden behind a funny and spurious nomenclature, designed to crowd out purchase of some high end products (pollution is just an excuse).

Road tax is a tax to use a public road. For 600-700 hp ICE (plus it depends also on the car's weight) is 500 eur or so (Zug) that's what I pay for the 992 turbo s. EV is half of that or less to reward no emissions. And registration tax 37%?? It must be a hell of a lot of work for clerks to issue a plate number :)
As a result we have a few more lovely 911 sold yearly.

The "registrations tax" used to be a straight up import duty until the EU rightly declared it illegal – barrier to single market – so they went away and dreamt up the registration scam.

And sure, I pay Swiss road tax most years - the vignette! I don't mind paying that – its getting it off the damn windscreen I hate!

Crazy. All that makes Taycan seem like a bargain in Ireland :)

ah ok I get it. it's a fake import tax. But why? Ireland is not a car manufacturer no?

I think there's a bit of confusion (may be my poor English). Road tax in my idea is charged yearly in most country against the "ownership" of a registered vehicle under a license plate (hence the 500 Chf for the 992 tts)- the vignette here - soon moving to digital, thanks g*d - is a toll solely for the use of highways (like the ones you have in France, Italy or Spain where you pay depending on how many km you drive)

sorry for the OT. 911 is such a good experience.

Historically it kinda was. When Ireland got its independence from the UK in the 1920's it was dirt poor and fairly isolationist/protectionist. The government back then put a huge import tax on car's (which few could afford) to try and promote a car industry.

It worked in the sense that Ford had a major factory here putting together Model T's, etc. What most manufacturer's did was ship the car's in as kit's where they could be assembled locally – this avoided the tax (by design). So there was a large cottage industry assembling all sorts of car's here in Dublin and to this day – many of the importers – Peugeot, etc, are based in the buildings that were once the kit assembly lines.

The first VW Beatle built outside of Germany was made in Dublin!

Anyways, eventually this setup just wasn't feasible and died away – but the high import duties – stayed in one form or another – eventually falling foul of the EU and turning into a registration tax today.

Sorry OP – I'd love a 911 – even if it was a little slower than an equivalent priced Taycan. I just love the shape and size of the 992 generation.

Hi folks,

Due to unsolvable technical issues, I was forced to make a change. After quite a bit of thinking and consideration, decided to go to 911 for time being. Here are a few notes from my experience that could be useful.

Overall it was a superb experience all year long, immediate acceleration at any speed, sharp handling and smooth ride. Real world range in summer was around 400km (could be stretched more if driving carefully). Winter was a whole different story - city driving would be closer to 270 or less depending on temperature. Other than range decrease, it was very nice to experience in winter - controlled drift, planted, never got stuck, awd ftw. Heat and sound insulated windows were a great feature, windows almost never got any fog and during summer cabin did not heat up too much (I would consider that a must have option for Taycan). Night vision is feature I will be missing, it’s operations in background added nice safety feeling, and warned me of some animals helping avoid problems. Burmester was not as nice as in Panamera and door panel rattling was very annoying, probably addition of vibro insulation would have helped. 19” wheels were perfect for bumpy roads, adding extra layer of comfort while still providing good handling at speed. 0-100 best time I got was 3.92, 0-200 12.27, 1/4 mile at [email protected] km/h. Ceramic coating made cleaning easier and water repellant treatment for windows made it much easier to keep them clean without need of using wipers especially at speeds of 60+ km/h. PPF was not applied, and if the car was a keeper, I would certainly do that, as in year’s time I managed to pick up quite a big of fine grain damages on the bumper and the hood. Also area around door handles picks up scratches easily as do the charging door.

Will I return to ev? Definitely. However at least until the end of the autumn, the new daily driver will be 911 Carerra 2 Cabrio - it makes one feel at least 10y younger ;) while performance is similar to Taycan 4s, it comes with *much* more involvement and excitement (the sound of turbos, exhaust,
engine and with the roof done is nice). The magic sport response button enables “Taycan” mode in terms of the acceleration.

Also 2022 apparently comes with PCM 6.0 which felt a bit of upgrade compared to the one in 2021 4s (colored icons etc).

Now I need to get the ppf done and the first proper drive is expected on May 21 on the season’s opening event for our local Porsche club.

That’s it. Happy to provide any additional feedback.

Nice choice. I am driving my 911 TS as well after unloading my Taycan. There are times I miss the solid ride and driving dynamics of the Taycan, but that is starting to fade. Knowing my car is gonna be reliable and have predictable range is important to me. The 911 is simply a more noisy car than the Taycan, more road noise and moving parts, but it's also rock solid and it doesn't break !! As far as performance, the 911 TS will do just fine against any Taycan to 100...after that the Taycan will be in the rear view mirror and will get farther and farther back.

Sorry bro, all my 911's have been extremely reliable....what type of 911 is that ??
2014 C4S. They had to drop the engine to fix a bad fuel injector (after shearing off one of the bolts needed to get to it). Car originally went into the shop to check an airbag warning light.

In Ireland that is a painful direction to move in tax wise:

Tax on EV: 23% (Sales/VAT) + 7% (Registration Tax) = 30% total tax

Tax on 911: 23% (Sales/VAT) + 37% (Registration Tax) = 60% total tax

Is it similar in Latvia – are high emission[1] vehicles "punished" ?

* These taxes make options really expensive as they are all taxed at those rates. If you can "buy" an option after delivery – for example FOD Innodrive – then it isn't part of the vehicle purchase and only attracts the 23% sales tax – not the registration tax.

1: High emissions is anything over 190 g/CO2 per km
Crazy ,move to Florida nice weather only a six percent sales tax and a 7500 dollar refund from the federal government on your income tax
