Hi all, I’ve got a 2022 4s+ with sports chrono.

I’ve always assumed that to make maximum progress I should select sports plus but today I used sport (which I very seldom do) and it felt faster in the 60 to 80mph range range. Anyone experienced this or does my butt dyno
need recalibrating?

I think what I am feeling relates to a later change to second gear in sports plus (it changes up in the late 70s) whereas sports changes earlier and tucks into a better part of the torque curve.

What’s your experience?

I think that Sport and Sport plus are supposed to change gear at the same point. The accelerator may be more sensitive in Sport plus and mine is set for harder and lower suspension but I don’t think straight line speed is different. I may not have driven it enough in each to really notice though. I would be interested to know what others think.

Iirc sport changes to second gear at 65, and sport+ at 85? Regardless, they change at different speeds.

I played around a little with this yesterday. Sport seemed to change up in the late 70s just like sport plus but there was no sensation of the kick in the back you get with sports plus, just a smooth progression. In sport plus it felt like more of a change in power levels than a faster and less smooth gear change. I couldn't tell if sport plus has less power than sport before the change or more after the change but I definitely felt a kick in sports plus that did not happen in sport. Anyone else?

The difference power train wise is in the cooling circuit allowing more power for longer by opening up the coolers.
An EV doesn't have a fixed torque curve like an IC engine, which is basically defined by how much oxygen you can get through it, so the idea of "dropping into a better part of the torque curve" is not valid.

If you try to take more than rated torque from an IC engine it stalls.
If you take more than rated torque from an electric motor it starts to heat up. How long you can get away with doing this depends on how much extra torque you are drawing and how hot you are prepareds to let the motor get, so it isn't fixed. All this will have been worked out and mapped into the electronic controller software.

I'm not trying to put words in your mouth so please correct me if I have mis interpreted your reply but it seems that you believe the additional cooling of sports plus means that there is an overall (but not published) performance advantage over the other modes? Correct?

Yes.
The extra cooling will reduce range but allow a bit of extra power to be used on average.
I am not familiar with the mapping so don't know precisely under what conditions and for how long you get more - but it will over a time period be more available.

To me Sport plus feels more responsive and the car is more planted compared to Sport mode. The difference could the be suspension setting? Since Sport plus will also lower/firm the suspension you feel more of what the car is doing in Sport (standard ride height).
