It is, and this friend checked my tuning over using his MLSSA system.

There is a trend to tune using DSP nowadays but that can improve in one listening position whereas, as you write, if you do it by positioning and furniture it is better - mind you the currently fashionable “bare” aesthetic is impossible to get good IME.

Also we listen “through” a room acoustic, and a car too.
A good set of DSP headphones sound like the optimal audiophile solution then (pun intended :)). Not available in a Taycan, at least not yet, perhaps next round of component cuts brings Bose headphones instead of Bose sound system. Does nothing for people who want to crank their base attempting to shake their license plates off their cars, but a good solution for people sharing the road with them enjoying the silence of an EV.

I tried driving with headphones as an impecunious audiophile very many years ago but it made me realise how much I relied on my ears when driving, listening to the car and the environment.
I felt very disorientated and have not done it since. It felt dangerous.

Mind you I have Asperger's so I don't like noisy distraction, listening to music is a major leisure activity for me, but never in the background.

Another consideration is that some reviewers don't think the Taycan Burmester system is up to the standard of some other manufacturers' higher-end offerings.

Totally EV Taycan Burmester review

Totally EV Taycan Bose review

(Personally, I only have Bose as it's standard in the Turbo- my alternative 4S config stuck with the standard system. When I listen to music, I like to concentrate on it and enjoy the detail (especially of drumkit and electric bass, which can get muddied by boomy subwoofers). These days I'm fortunate to be able to enjoy the driving too much to want the distraction of music.)

Bose option has been removed from Taycan RWD and Taycan 4 CT only. Even if you ordered Bose, you will only get standard (awful) stereo. This is a deal breaker for me as I have 4CT on order awaiting allocation. My dealer suggested I just wait and see the situation at the point of allocation. I will not be taking a car without Bose or Burmester - simple as that.

I am appalled at Porsche and really am at the end of my tether with delays etc.. If they replaced it with another brand or equivalent I would be OK.

My dealer also thinks the Bose removal will filter to other models such as the 4S next - apparently this happened on Macan - starting with the base and now the S.
Exactly on the same boat as you. I will not be accepting the vehicle without the bose.

Many years ago you did not have the DSP technology which could mix in ambient noise at whatever level you find most comfortable to drive, like Apple AirPods Pro or Samsung Galaxy Buds intended for runners for example. I'm sure Bose has similar technology. I use such headphones when I exercise outdoors, and when driving rental cars while traveling (don't feel like pairing up the phone with the rental, primarily because of associate security issues of it being an untrusted device and me not having any way to be sure all my information is actually wiped after I return the car - I am more paranoid than most as I work with cybersecurity).

Just out of interest (and I know musical / hi-fi tastes are personal) but....

Will someone who has got experience of all 3 systems in a Taycan give a rating for the Bose, assuming Base system = 1 and Burmester = 10.

Only reason being, I have got Bose and haven't experienced the other two. And it may help others while we have supply issues.

We could even go one step further and rate system for basic listening preference (talk / classical / pop / dance etc)?

I have got Bose, but am sure I would be OK with base system if my listening was always talk / sport radio (it isnt, it varies a lot).
Don't need such a broad range - std (1), Bose (2), Burmester (3).

The truth is that much of the difference is subjective and I'm pretty sure the more you spend the more self justification there is as in 'it has to be better'.

I have Airpods, both the buds and the headphone types that mix ambient noise but whilst I use them on the train to London and bus to Oxford I still feel vulnerable walking with them if there is any traffic about, so may use on country walks (though off-road cyclists are a major hazard nowadays too and ear buds in I am not aware of them as soon as I like) but never elsewhere. As soon as I get off the train/bus in my pocket they go.

I am not that bothered about having music on when I'm driving anyway.

I have seen cyclists with ear buds which I find shocking.

I think driving with headphones on may be illegal in the UK, whether directly or the catchall of "driving without due care and attention" I'm not sure.

I share your concern with the unpoliced source of all sorts of crime we call the internet...

That is certainly the approach used in the HiFi industry and its supporting magazines.
It is wrong but has majority support from non-technically minded enthusiasts. Some of the obsessions are actually not even possible!

I use Galaxy Buds (maybe Buds+, I don't remember, have had them for a while since I had a Galaxy phone, recently moved to my first iPhone ever because I want wireless CarPlay in the Taycan). I realized a bit ago that I actually hear cyclist better coming up behind me than when I don't have the headphones in. The ambient noise feature on the headphone actually makes me notice a cyclist coming from behind more noticeable than without headphones. Note that I don't listen to music usually when outside, usually talking on the phone.

Below is a $500 volume knob, I remember seeing a $5,000 version too, but did not find it in a quick google search (must be hidden on some audiophile forums, where you can only see the $5K knob if you had more than x posts on the forum - for suckers pros only). Don't forget the premium, gold-plated, magic dusted cables for digital transmission (like Ethernet) too - 1's and 0's sent through those cables sounds so much batter than cheap copper 1's and 0's. ;)

Ah, I average about 4 or 5 phone calls per week, so no need to be super prepared :)

Yes.
It is amazing how ill prepared our education makes the average bloke for recognising technical snake-oil.

I wish! I've been working remotely for almost 2 decades now, so have work phone calls every day. My friends and family are also spread out throughout the world, so I also keep in touch with them over the phone.

Completely agree. I enjoy listening to the separation of instruments & the singer drawing breath which you appreciate more the further up the hi-fi food chain you climb.
As a consequence, I enjoy almost all genres including rock & 90's dance which the Bose does reasonably well.

I seem to remember there was an interesting discussion on R4's More or Less recently on this topic where apparently scientific tests were conducted into why people spend so much on 'hi-fi' and the perceived benefit and differentiation derived. I wish I could remember which one it was but it made some sense to me at the time highlighting that in such situations folk convince themselves that their (expensive) system sounds better than others as they actively listen for differences which at the end of the day may not be 'better' but different.

No doubt there was some science and math applied which if memory serves basically confirmed that the improvements heard were typically in one's mind rather than a measurable difference or at best no better.

I may have recollected this incorrectly but worth a listen should you come across it (but I'm guessing you probably heard it live at the time).
