The dealership group here in Austin had a customer appreciation event yesterday at COTA. We got to spend 30 minutes on the track in the morning with our own cars (I did not since I had a plug in a tire). In the afternoon we got to drive one car (luck of the draw essentially) that the dealership brought. They had 3 Lotus, 2 Audi RS7, 3 Electric Macan's and 1 Taycan.
They divided the cars into 3 groups (Lotus, Audi, and Porsche) and each group had a lead driver assigned to pace the group and provide instruction over the radios. Overall it was a really fun event and the first time I've driven on a race track. I ended up driving a Macan when it was my turn (again, luck of the draw) and I was impressed with it for a heavy SUV. It was fun feeling it slightly drift through turns with the tires losing some of their grip.
COTA was a blast. I didn't realize how the elevation changed around the track. It was just so much fun and I'd love to get out there again. Here's a short video of the Porsche group making it's way down the track in front of the grand stands.
