I've noticed that in the Ovo Charge app my cars 'gross' battery capacity is displayed. I can't recall for sure if I entered this manually when I set the app up or if I just picked my make and model of car from a drop down list.

Car is a 2024 Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo with a gross battery capacity of 93.4kWh. To clarify, it's a J1.1 not a J1.2, despite being registered in October 2024.

Also, the Zappi v2 charger is linked to Ovo, not the car. This is so the charger can smart charge using specific slots at reduced cost. The only thing I use the Porsche app for is setting which profile I want and preconditioning. Ovo app controls the actual charging.

However, the 'useable' battery capacity is listed as 83.7kWh.

Which should I have in the app, and does it make any actual difference anyway?

Thanks 👍🏻

The gross size is 93.4 kWh and represents the total battery capacity.

The net size is 83.7 kWh and represents the available or usable capacity to you for charging (so any calcs you do must be based on the net and not the gross).

The difference allows the Battery Management System (BMS) to use the delta (9.7 kWh) as required should there be an issue with one or more of the battery cells. You cannot access this additional capacity (same for any EV).

The app won't really care and won't impact charging. I had the same car and a 4S prior and just let Ovo decide what's what.

GTS comes standard with the Performance Battery Plus and lower trim models (J1.1 in UK) came with the Performance Battery which has a woeful 79.2 kWH gross and 71 kWH net (useable).
