J1.1 was very noisy on road tyres. No matter what tyre brand. Amplified by the CT body. I had a Vw Golf rental and it was more soundproofed from tyres noise than the taycan! Jen 1.2 has been improved a lot to the point I forget about it quickly despite noise still being there. In fairness I notice it when I drove the Defender and jumped on the taycan. The defender even with off road tyres is quiet.
I have 21” summer tyres on my taycan now and I think it is just ok for road noise from tyres.

Odd both my 4S (Michelin) and GTS ST (Pirelli) were whisper quiet on the inside to my ears.

I think it is more noticeable if you are driving different cars better soundproofed! My wife never noticed. She tends to drive with music on. I don’t.
If I jump from my Alfa GTA to the taycan, I don’t notice it. I notice immediately after the Defender has been driven.

I have a 911 (992) and tyre noise is a major issue. Step into the Taycan and I'm in a sound proof anechoic chamber!

Yeah, soundproofing not the best virtue of the 911 :)

Get a grip here guys !!
If you want engine noise buy an engine.
If you want silence, buy an executive luxury saloon.
You've got electric, live with that, and enjoy it for its own sake. As for 'fake' noise ... what are you thinking!! are you really so shallow to create an impression of engine noise??
Tyre noise is part of the feedback experience, entirely dependent on road surface rather than tyre type.
What am I even doing, entering this nonsense thread ??!!

Not about getting a grip…. Drive a cheap BYD and there is no tyre noise as found in the taycan… and overall it is a lot noisier than most of the premium Ev.

As I noticed before, taycan sound proofing is similar to Golf/ford focus. Expect they do not have tyre noise like the taycan does…

My 2020 Turbo S is the quietest car I've ever had, and I love listening to music on the Burmester. I do have all the 'noise reduction' options. I really can't understand why anyone wants a fake 'engine noise' or any other simulated noise intruding on the quiet of the car, or the stereo... The paddles make this just ridiculous IMO, and I'd like to see how long people continue to 'use' this feature once the novelty has run out.

The xpeng p7+ that we’re considering as a family car replacement is far above the taycan that n noise insulation. Like miles above. On top of that you can also enable active noise cancelling, for complete silence

The Chinese put a lot of value on their EVs being completely quiet.

I don’t think there is any European EV even offering active noise canceling technology.

Maybe in a few more years; until then, I am perfectly happy with my “fake engine” noises

It always depends on what you had before the taycan. I personally find it okey…sh in terms of soundproofing. I am on my second so clearly it didn’t affect my choice but… we have to accept it is not among the best.
I was recently passenger of a Merc EQS and, is on another planet in terms of noise absence. Handling like a boat though :)
I keep the taycan and accept the noisy cabin compared to any other 100k plus EV…

Back to being realistic - you cannot compare a family car (BYD, xpeng p7+, Golf ??*!! or any other) with a performance car running stiff suspension.
You've got choices - stop whingeing

Since when is the taycan a performance car with stiff suspension? 🤣

it’s a 4 door sedan; capable of caring 4 people, with luggage, on AIR susnepsion, hell, j1.2 has the most advanced suspension on the market and its main feature is comfort

what are we even talking about ? 🤣

people, stop pretending the taycan is some race / sports car.

That’s interesting, cause I think the taycan is a rapid family car, very comfortable even with stiff suspension but also numb to drive, more like a fast GT/sports saloon.

For my 2020 Taycan 4S, it comes down to the tires, especially Michelin summers.
Winter tires are quieter due to the softer tread compound.

My new 2026 992.2S is noisy, largely due to how much rubber is on the road.
You hear every change in the road surface, rough to smooth.
On longer trips I save my hearing by using Air Pod Pro 3' on transparency mode.
With them, you can also listen to music and get text messages read out to you.

When I first got my GTS ST, I thought it was a little loud in the cabin too, not from tire/road noise, just from sound coming from the outside. I applied some sound proofing to all four doors for $50 and it’s noticeably quieter now. My measurements (nothing too scientific) showed about 5-6 Db reduction. Highly recommended mod if you are sensitive to it.

As to the e-shift thing, I’d might enjoy it. I’d actually be more interested in the V8 sound that the new Cayenne EV Turbo has than fake shifting though.
