Hi,
So this is our 7th Porsche, every one we've ordered has had electric steering adjustment.
We just done the handover today to pick up our new car, when setting up each others memory settings we instantly noticed the lack of electric adjustment.

We questioned this, the sales manager stumbed and said it wasn't specced as is only on the 14 way or 18 way option. We pointed out that you can only choose the 14 or 18 way option on the turbo model.

He then went away and apologised and said there is a part shortage on the Column needed to adjust this electronically? Really? I thought the worldwide parts shortage was only more the computer side of things.
He then mentioned it would be after fitted.

I'm leaning to believe this has been missed off our spec.

Can any if you shed any light on this? I can't find any evidence of the claims online.

Thanks

Doesn't sound plausible. Either seat upgrade gives you memory and electric steering column adjustment. Standard 8 way does not but you can add memory for the driver.

All kinds of electrical components are seeing shortages and delays. I don’t know what the specific part it is that’s needed or missing, but based on what I’m seeing on the industrial controls side, I think this is possible.

That said, I’m not aware of any other specific claims like this and I would be surprised if the car wasn’t held until the correct parts were ready so, I would tend to think it’s more of a general mistake.

It does not matter if there is parts shortage or not. If the car is spec-ed to have this feature they should NOT build it and deliver it to the customer without the feature and without notifying the client.

You should ask your dealer to provide a response in writing and to give an an ETA when the missing parts will be installed. You should also ask for a serious discount.

Florida dealer told me they are shipping cars with the manual steering adjustment and once the chip shortage problem goes away and they get the powered steering column, they will retrofit it at the dealer at not cost to you.

This happened to my car today as well! They said they will retrofit all due to chip shortages. I don’t want them tearing my car apart.
Also on mine no chip for auto lights and auto air. Also only 1 key! They won’t give me my deposit back and I am told it might be months to get parts. They have no firm time line. Horrible service. Trying to cancel. I will make full post about my issues tonight.

This is kind of nuts. At some point they might take the deposit and start piecing together our cars in our backyards, every third Thursday of the month

"Hey Mr G, we put in the rear axle..we should have one of the electric motors next month..cya!" ???

One of the guys on another forum got a letter from Porsche before his Boxster arrived saying that rather than delaying the production they sent the car with a manual column and would replace it at their cost. At least some are being proactive.

I'm sure you can reject the car if it's not delivered as ordered. They have not fulfilled the contract. You shouldn't have to pay for parts that aren't there. I won't reject mine if it has this issue.

I'm pretty sure I'd reject something that wasn't complete as delivered, as you can't return a car later if you don't like how things turned out.

(Which is also why you should buy a car based on what features it has at delivery, not some sort of hope for updates later)

A fellow on the 718 Forum also got a letter today that Porsche would be fitting the components for his power adjustable steering wheel at some point in the future after his car is delivered. So it not just the Taycan that’s experiencing these issues right now.

I would expect that a company that respects their customers would offer one of the following options to them:
- delayed delivery of the car with all features
- sooner delivery with missing features but a discount to compensate for it. Then offer to install the features when available at a cost that does not exceed the discount.

If they just deliver cars with missing features at full price, not giving the client
the option to accept or reject and no guaranteed day to install then that is next level of unbelievable (in a negative way) customer service.

OK thanks for the replies everyone, seems it's genuine. Had the garage been open and upfront with us before the car reveal we wouldn't have doubted it, and we had to bring it to their attention....

Happy with the car and to wait for the afterfit. The car has an 18 month waiting list now apparently so didn't want to reject the order.
