what are people’s experiences with home charging (11 kws) and onboard charger failure? my ‘20 4s had both the complete battery and the OBC replaced (warranty bill said about CAD$70k).
but i hear about OBC fails regularly
Wow. My luck must be all bad.
I own two Taycans.
My '20 Taycan 4s was pretty great for 5 years and then had a catastrophic battery failure. 3 months after vacationing at the dealership I got it back and it has been fine with a brand new battery at the 5.5 year mark.
my '25 Taycan 4s CT...
Porsche’s disclosure on charging remains at 11kws for all of their BEVs. If you look at the MyPorsche app, in your “garage”, the 11 kws is there. if you look at the new and used inventory for sale of Taycans, Macans, etc., the spec disclosure even emphasizes home charging at 11 kws. i think...
Interesting. So it is a software solution that was used. Presumably it would be reversible and could allow the charging at up to the advertised 11 kws?
I think I have exchanged with you before on the OBC issues but just to ask, do you know how and when Porsche ratcheted back the charging capability of the Taycans with an 11 kw OBC?
My '20 Taycan will happily pull 11 kws (based upon information from my charger, and showing at a rate of about...
I have experienced "Turtle Mode" in my 2025 4s CT back in April of last year. The diagnosis came quickly but parts did not. First, the issue was a coolant pump described as P1. It was leaking and the system shorted, etc. So unlike your situation this was the problem and the solution was...
The Red Circle of Death. Been there with my 2020 Taycan about one year ago. Entirely new battery replacement for us. but that was because my '20 was a gen 1 and they could not do the individual cells on it. 3 months at the dealership before our car was returned.
Lots of passion shown on this topic. I have a related point on the whole charging topic.
My’25 CT4s has the 11kw OBC. I believe that the 19.2 kw OBC was an option when i ordered but i passed on it. I am told the 19.2 kw OBC is no longer an available option…
However i upgraded my home charger...
Not intending to make an ad for my hardwired chargepoint flex, but at 50 amps , my ‘20 taycan will consistently accept 10.3-10.4 kw, pretty much regardless of the SOC. Alas, its my ‘25 Taycan that appears to be “detuned” to accept only about 9.3-9.4 kw.
i did have a ‘20 cayenne ev hybrid and got rid of it within a few months because its ev range was at best 22kms and no where near the advertised 50 kms.
great that the new ones charge faster…
I have a chargepoint hard wired 50 amp charger on a 70 amp circuit. you will see from the app summary the charger was delivering about 11 amps. that translated in the car to about 10.4 kw. ‘20 Taycan.
my’25 Taycan never get beyond 9.3 kw at the car.
curiouser and curiouser. to add to my confusion, i have a 2020 Taycan 4s in addition to my 2025 Taycan 4s.
when i charge my ‘20 with my 50 amp rate, i charge at about 10.4 kws. My ‘25 Taycan goes to 9.3 kws.
I assume that there is a good explanation for this but would love to hear…
that is an impressive grasp of the charging story. No one at Porsche has shared anything along these lines with me. and on paper, at least, the 19.2 kw on board charger remains an option.
i have my charger hard wired on a 70 amp circuit so that it is capable of delivering a full 50 amps.
in answer to the question of why it matters that i be able to deliver that to the car vs just a lower rate—to allow me to, when time is a factor, maximize my charging.
but lets frame the...
My ‘25 CT 4s has the standard 11kw onboard charger but i cannot get close to that charging rate with my 50 amp capacity charger. tops out at 9.3 or 9.4 even in ideal charging conditions (low SOC and optimal battery temp).
Anyone know if Porsche has limited the charging rate? would it be...
the thread started in May. i would have only had my failed battery coolant pump at that time and may not have known that it was a part failure on the battery vs another electrical issue.
I sure could add votes in a lot of places on that survey now…
