Bizarre 'whistleblower' claims “60% of all delivered Taycan have battery issues that caused replacements, damages and fires”

I"m really sorry that you're having this issue, and you're definitely not the first. I do want to make two observations: - there are definitely issues that with the HV/traction battery in the Taycan that have affected multiple owners - the general surveys in this community do not support the...

EA (Electrify America) Sucks - that is all

When I use the EA 'card' it's because I can't get payment to work with the MyPorsche app (an all-too-common occurrence). I'd rather pay for charging than have a 'free' empty battery...

EA (Electrify America) Sucks - that is all

Thanks. Your suggestion is a perfectly reasonable one; so many of the EVGo chargers are in parking garages with marginal cell reception that I found a long time ago that it was better to use the NFC cards than to use the app. All of our three EVs have a EVGo card in the car. With ChargePoint and...

EA (Electrify America) Sucks - that is all

I was using the NFC cards. The issue was that it could not initiate a charge, not that I couldn't authorize payment.

PSA: Shameless plug - Dirt Fish Rally School

I enthusiastically second/third/fourth the DirtFish recommendation. I did the 3-day program with some friends about four years ago, and it was really fantastic. Lots of track/course time, great instruction, and a set of skills that I didn't know I needed but made me a better driver.

EA (Electrify America) Sucks - that is all

In my recent EA charging experience here in the mid-Atlantic region, the EA stations have been working (if the app said the they were available), but I've had spotty success with initiating charging via the MyPorsche app. I've not had any issues using the NFC 'card' in my phone to charge with my...

EA (Electrify America) Sucks - that is all

I will note that independent studies by a couple of groups (including one that I worked with last year) disagree with this. In fact EA is (by a small margin) the most reliable CCS network. EVGo is next, with ChargePoint trailing far behind. I've had good and bad experiences with all of the...

    22 kW onboard charger upgrade?

Thanks (and thanks to @daveo4EV for the info)!

    Ubiquiti EV Charger

Hmmm. I have to admit that for my use it doesn't look great. Which is too bad, since I love my Ubiquiti gear. No word on whether it supports load sharing (which would be important for me), and also only comes with a 16.4-ft cable, which is about 9 feet shorter than I'd want.

    22 kW onboard charger upgrade?

Has anyone gotten the upgrade to the 22 kW onboard charger that Porsche announced back in July? My understanding is that it's the one way for 2020 Taycan owners to get Plug and Charge capability, and I'd love to know how much I'd have to pay for that privilege...

Tesla opens up their EV connector design to the world (North American Standard)

I do love the form factor of Tesla's connector, but I've heard informed people (techs for EV makers and charging networks) several times say that the Tesla connector isn't well-designed for high-voltage charging. That seems like a pretty significant limitation if we look down the road at all at...

Duffel Bags That Fit The Taycan Frunk?

I can also recommend the Peak Design Travel Duffel as an excellent bag that fits nicely into the frunk. I find I can get a full duffel plus my Peak Design Everyday Backpack 2.0 into the frunk very comfortably.

Study finds EV chargers unusable more than advertised - Article

As someone who participated in gathering data for the study, I can answer this question: most cars don't support Plug & Charge, including my 2020 Taycan Turbo which I used for all of my data collection for the study. The study required us to attempt using a credit card to pay because not every...

Yet another Q about the 22 kW onboard charger option

So, not sure if your circuit is 50A and you're talking about using a 40A charger (which would be the highest load you should have on the 50A circuit), or a 40A circuit with a 32A charger. In either case, your maximum charging rate would 9.6 kW (40A X 240V = 9,600W) for the 50A circuit, and...

    Using iPhone as a key?

There *are* wireless technologies that thwart replay/relay attacks, specifically ultra-wideband location and ranging. These are a part of the next-generation mobile key specification that's being deployed by the Car Connectivity Consortium. This is what the next generation of 'phone as key'...

PECLA PPF XPEL PLUS OPTION (ZFP/ZFS)

I had Polished Protection in Signal Hill install XPEL film on the front and mirrors on my 2020 Turbo. You might get in touch with them to see what they're currently charging. The shop is about a 10 minute drive from PECLA.

Best spots for launch control in the Bay Area

I will second the Canada recommendation. Actually has a flat quarter mile, perfectly straight, and there's basically nobody there at night. I do recommend a reconnaissance run one way before launching the other way, just to check for deer and San Mateo County Sherrif's deputies...
