hmmm - as I always suspected - the grid can handle EV's

You are correct on UL 1077 it says 100% of rating - hold

hmmm - as I always suspected - the grid can handle EV's

i went into the office today and took a look at the Ul489 standard. It said “7.1.2.4.1 A circuit breaker shall be capable of carrying 100 percent of its rated current without tripping.”

hmmm - as I always suspected - the grid can handle EV's

Thanks, that would be of interest. I suspect you will only find examples where it is possible due to tolerance, not design. Here is an extract from some guidance notes around the EN60898 standard which might help clear things up 3.4.4. In Rated Current The current that the circuit-breaker...

hmmm - as I always suspected - the grid can handle EV's

Please share an example, I’ve not come across that in any electrical distribution circuit breaker. Normally the trip curve is asymptotic to the rated current

hmmm - as I always suspected - the grid can handle EV's

I'm not suggesting anyone has guessed anything :) The discussion stated as one about MCB derating but has morphed into one about cables which I fully get. Cable have all sorts of requirements, many listed out by daveo4EV, where derating applies. But breaker selection can also affect cable size...

hmmm - as I always suspected - the grid can handle EV's

"So I'm betting the North American building code is conservative" This is very much the view Europe takes of North American standards and at the root of why I described the case as interesting in my earlier post. I won't comment further, some of your post I agree with, some of it I don't :)

hmmm - as I always suspected - the grid can handle EV's

There are circumstances where a 40A for a 7KW EVSE would be right for the UK. Typically this would be if you where you had an additional circuit installed in an already well populated consumer unit. The combined heating effect would lead to the kind of de rating we were discussing earlier (it's...

hmmm - as I always suspected - the grid can handle EV's

That's why I said it was interesting how different practices exist. Breakers designed to IEC60898 or the NEMA / ANSI equivalent are rated to run continuously at their nominal current. The local installation codes are asking you to de rate, here in UK that is not the case in any standard, code...

hmmm - as I always suspected - the grid can handle EV's

It's interesting how local regulations / habits can impact how equipment is installed. All breakers are designed to carry their rated current on a permanent basis so this de rating to 80% isn't really required. Perhaps the fact that the 50A normally costs more than the 40A so the installer can...

    SPORT mode all the time?

I’ve got a 22 4s. It upshifts at 78 mph and downshifts at 52 mph in sport plus. I think this is different from earlier model years. I did my Porsche experience in a 21 last week and the change up was around 55 mph.

    SPORT mode all the time?

Anyone know if the chassis options (ptv+, rws, pccd) are able to go into sports plus if you don’t have the chrono package. I know that they mostly (except pccd) have a sports plus setting but don’t know if the “chassis button” can access them. I’ve got chrono and would probably spec it again...

    Bordeaux/Black - Neodyme or Darksilver

I’ve got a bordeaux / black interior and decided to leave the accents as standard to avoid clashing. I’m glad I did, I think it’s stunning. Can’t give you a picture right now as I’m travelling but I will on my return.

    UK PEC session

I had my experience today and it was great. Having 121 in car instruction is a real bonus and you really do get to experience how the car behaves in challenging circumstance. I particularly enjoyed the “icy“ slalom and the kick plate. Great to refresh those opposite lock skills. Enjoyed the...

    Traction control

What model are you driving? I've got a 4S+ with 21 inch wheels. Honestly, I cannot tell the difference between on, off or halfway most of the time, even if I boot it on slow speed apexes. When I do feel anything it's more akin to what you would feel in a powerful rear drive car with a bit of a...

    Lift GPS Accuracy

I have a few points stored but I really cannot rely on them. It either takes too long to raise or is too inaccurate. Much easier to press the button each time you need to raise, and be patient enough to give it time to raise.

    Salary sacrifice 4s vs Turbo

Agreed. Most people are replacing their ICE company car when going electric on salary sacrifice it seems. The company car tax savings are enormous when you choose electric let alone the salary sacrifice benefits. For my previous ICE car the tax bill would have actually been more that the PCP...

    Salary sacrifice 4s vs Turbo

Normally you need to nett off any car allowance that you might get which brings the actual cost down considerably depending on your own circumstances. Then take on board that company deals include maintenance including tyres etc, insurance, tax and typically have a higher mileage profile (great...

    Salary sacrifice 4s vs Turbo

This is what I was going to do but couldn't get an allocation for a Turbo within a sensible time frame. I think I would have ended up waiting an extra 12 months so ended up with a 4S. It's fast enough but there are times when I could use more. BTW my wife's got an 8r (bog standard though) and...
